OK thanks - does the 'thumb sucking' refers to the oHR or GPS accuracy?

GPS accuracy. I assume you also have a Spartan Trainer? Have you done an openwater swim?

If you use TrainingPeaks you will love the 935/Fenix structured workout integration.

"This integration allows you to sync structured workouts that you or your coach creates on the TrainingPeaks platform. The workout for the day will then be available for you to pull/load directly from your watch – without having to manually re-create it on Garmin Connect or do any other funkiness."

Agree but note not supported across entire Fenix Forerunner range. For example, not supported on Fenix 3. Think you need a 5 at least.

Love new gadgets! Now just to learn how to use it - going from a touch screen to buttons is going to be a challenge!quote]

I actually enjoyed using the buttons more than struggling with a touch screen and sweaty fingers. Congrats on the gadget[emoji106][emoji2534]

I had the Multi Sport and was very happy with it. The only issue i ever had was the HR was a bit inconsistent for indoor activities like spinning and gym.

On another note, has anybody heard anything about Tom Tom being removed from Vitality at the end of this year?

Eish, I would need to get myself a new watch before the end of the year if that's the case.

Pre-orders for Instinct are open. R6199 from Garmin SA. Expected in 2 weeks.

I really like the "Casio/Timex" look of the Instinct, pity it doesn't support power-meters.

Hi Guys

I am in the process of looking at a new multi -sport watch. I currently use an Apple Watch 2 and mainky use it for the following:

Cycling

Golf

Running

Swimming

Activity tracker

Multiple workout options

HR

What annoys me about the iwatch is that it doesn’t look like a traditional watch to me, and the battery life sucks!! Have to charge it every day.

Watches I have my eye on at the moment:

Iwatch 4 ( just because I’m familiar with the device and have an iPhone ) not 1st choice...

Garmin forerunner 935

Garmin Fenix 5 ( I bit outside of my budget )

Not sure what else there is? Golf, running, and cycling with the hr are the most important functions for me.

Any advice based on your own experiences would be greatly appreciated!

I have a 735XT as my core multi-sport watch. I prefer to use it without a strap purely for comfort reasons. I’ve done a test on the oHR to compare with a strap - use the search function for my review (keywords Wrist-based HR). The tests were done on a MTB ride, IDT and road rides, with excellent/consistent results.

My day 2 day watch is the Apple Watch 3, purely to save the battery recharge cycle life on the 735XT. The Apple watch lasts 2 days and Garmin up to a week between charges.

I had to use the Apple watch for the Corporate 5Km run last week at Waterfall, as I had left my Garmin at home that day... habit. It worked for the run, but without certain metrics I would usually glance at post-run. It’s a smart watch with fitness capabilities, whereas a Garmin (and others) are fitness devices with smart watch capabilities.

FWIW, I’ll soon have my hands on a Tri strap to give additional running metrics that my 735XT does provide. It currently shows HR, pace, cadence and stride length even on a treadmill (without GPS signal). The 735XT is not a bulky looking device, when compared to a Fenix, and is much less in price.

For me, it’s enough... even has power functionality which I also use.

My 10c worth (seeing that 1c, 2c and 5c pieces are no longer in circulation).

Fenix 3 HR. Far cheaper than the new 5 and covers everything you need/want and more. And you can wear it to the office unlike some of their other models

I agree with you about the features but i don't think you can get them brand new anymore and i'm not sure if the warranty carries over on second hand units.

Not to derail the topic (although I think the OP got what he wanted), but can anyone comment on their experience with using a watch to view your numbers when cycling vs using a dedicated cycling device like an Edge 520?

At the moment, I have a fenix 5 as my daily watch and then strap it to my handlebar when riding (road bike), but I've been toying with the idea of ditching the fenix and getting an Edge purely for riding, and a normal watch or a Samsung smart watch as a day to day device. Comments?

I never had an issue seeing what was on my watch when it's on the bike but the screen on the Edge computers is much bigger so you can make each data field a lot bigger if you have that problem. Alternatively (like I do) you can have many more data fields on a single screen on the Edge. (You can have 8 or 10 on the Edge vs 4 on the Forerunner)

For reference I have the Forerunner 935 and an Edge 820.

For the bike I mirror my Garmin 935 screen to my Garmin 130.

Garmin Extended Display:  This allows you to pair a Garmin Fenix 5 series or FR935 watch to the Edge 130, enabling you to mirror the information you see on your watch to the Edge 130.

David, for the sake of everyone wondering about the mirroring, does it mirror exactly.  I.E., if you have 4 data fields on the 935 screen, there will be 4 on the Edge 130?

Or, if your 935 can do more than one bike profile (which the 130 can't), will those bike profile specific screens reflect on the 130 (I assume so)

And if the 935 can show data fields that the 130 cannot show independently, will it be able to mirror said field

I was actually thinking of this Fenix 5 Edge 130 combo specifically because of this mirroring functions as apposed to getting a Edge 520, as part of my switch from my Polar V800/M450 combo

Thanks
