I would like to think I have an open mind towards music appreciation, which means I am,open to all genres, types and forms, especially the new.

And going back and listening to some old favs; have they stood the test of time? Other day I head The Police 'Roxanne; for the first time is decades and it Rox.

Nowadays really I listen to mostly electronica on mix / soundcloud and the music on Giles Peterson's Worldwide FM although i have my music library of a few thousand CD's ripped and ready at all times in all places.

Should say that although I could call myself a music lover I have absolutely no musical talent. No that I didn't try though....

I'm very much in the same category. No musical talent whatsoever, but love and enjoy all kinds of music. My greatest love is fairly heavy rock and metal, but the one thing I never liked or listened to was jazz............until one night in New Orleans I ended up at Preservation Hall. A dark crowded room rather than a hall, packed like sardines, smoky, eyes burning, horrible........and then the band started playing. After an hour of the magic I was ready to go stand in the 200m long queue for the next show! Ever since I appreciate and enjoy jazz too. Even if I only own 5 jazz cds, I go to the Cape Town jazz festival every so often.

Growing up with Abba, Bee Gees, Elvis, The Beatles, UB40, Rick Astley, Madonna, Roxette, etc, and then being introduced to Metallica, Guns n' Roses, Nirvana and Queen in the late 80's / early 90's, and then being introduced to dance music in the late 90's.... I'm pretty much okay with most genres of music, except for death metal.

The song that got me into rock / metal:

The song that got me into doef doef:

I find I can't workout to rock / metal though. When there's dance music playing in the background, it almost gives me extra motivation to burn more calories.

I never did get into Dance/techno/house or whatever they called it.. and I never did see it as music more sound engineering ..but hey each to his own..

Oh.. Gosh...I got into both. Early 90s was mad with the madchester house scene.. then followed a small stint of hard techno (minus the drugs) until I came to my senses again.... The joys of being a 17/18 year old [emoji23]

I tried to learn guitar, but being left handed I never committed properly. Love my music... And pretty much all genres except hard rock/metal... Never got into that

Techno/house burst on to the scene in a big way when I was in high school..but fortunately by then my music taste was already heavily influenced by my eldest brother who is 9 years older than me.

But I enjoy a lot of other genres besides Rock...classical, opera, rap...and I love the Blues.

Even someone with an allergy to electronic music has to fall in love with this track.

Most of the doef doef genre's get a bad rep coz its saturated by terrible music.

But there are some really, really good artists that are often overshadowed by the most of the mainstream rubbish.

Put on some cans and listen.

Its more of a chillwave indie pop vibe but every sound is just mathematical harmony imo.

Was a big fan.. Was just trying to remember them all... Happy Mondays, inspiral carpets, primal scream, soup dragons, new order of course .. And then more to the traditional indie...charlatans, stone roses etc... Good times

Yes there definitely was a swing to the more melodic beat orientated music at that time - Stone Roses were awesome, I was picking up the good vibes at that time thanks to being able to listen to music at CD Warehouse, I still have most of those early albums on CD.

Undeniably there was a link to the drugs that were doing the rounds at the time, for better or worse.

There's a really good movie with Steve coogan called twenty four hour party people. Which kinda defines that drug scene. There's also a mini documentary from the BBC about Shaun Ryder and a bit about Bez. The okes are tickets now... Can barely function.

I Saw the stone roses final gig at reading 96. I'm sad to report that it was very underwhelming.. But... Still got to see them I guess
