The person is probably an estate agent. Well known tactic by them. Agent tried that tactic many years ago when I wanted to buy a home I saw. Asked her to bring the Offer To Purchase so that I could sign it. Agent pitched and said the seller wanted R40k more. I told her to tell the seller that I was not interested anymore. I suspect she told them that she is gonna push me for more.

Sorry, but this is very unethical. Your price is your price. This is not an auction.

Actually an attorney.

Just give the man R3k. It is still an eyewateringly good price and riding the W2w for R3k beats standing on your principles.

Eldron I agree with you , it is an awesome price .

But  , what if the guy who saw the add , and offered the R2k has missed out on previous W2W's because he didn't have the budget ??

Now he sees a never to be repeated deal and in good faith accepts it ...

Seller maybe realizes he can get R3K or even more and up's the ante....

Seriously not cool of the seller !!!!

I've never understood the purpose of the "what if".

Is the idea to create an imaginary scenario then discuss said imaginary scenario and come up with imaginary answers for the imaginary scenario in order to sharpen our imaginary scenario debating skills?

Ok here goes - if the man only has a R2k budget for the W2W he's pretty knackered from the start really. Petrol money will take up 100% of his budget. He might be able to find a pair of running shoes for that price but he won't be able to eat for the duration of the race. Plus he'll be running naked and probably be arrested before he finishes anyway.

Didn't realise the W2W was a running event?  :whistling:

It’s funny how it’s expected the price advertised is capped but absolutely negotiable down by a buyer.

And before my profile gets toilet papered, I’m not in anyway advocating one lifts the price after the fact.

I know... I have had some ridiculous offers on things and sob stories that the writers of Day's of our lives should buy!

I am in no way suggesting the practice is ok, but neither is sending someone a message that says 'i will give you 2k. deal?' on an item advertised for 5k.... 1st of all, WHO ARE YOU?

Buying and selling is pretty frustrating sometimes. I have a bike room full of stuff I just can't bring myself to sell for fear of such messages.

Jocklaw, sucks you couldnt ride bro, but either state it's an auction or sell for agreed price.

Dudes are also very quick to write 'dibs' and then go flaccid over the sale. Money talks. If you don't make a firm commitment to meet/pay/collect then the 'line' is open for business!

This!

Price is negotiated.

People always bang on about the bargain they got and brag about dropping the seller's price - how is it that if the seller ups his price he is an arse?

Price is negotiated.
