So I managed to download and sync the step test file to my Zwift cloud. It now available on my Apple tv and on my Iphone. Can only be done on laptop/pc with Zwift app installed.

Download the Zwift file here:

https://gplama.blogspot.com/2016/07/how-to-do-step-test-on-zwift-pb-hptek.html

Save the downloaded file to Workouts in Zwift file in Documents.

Open Zwift app and skip pairing, go to Workouts menu and it should be under GP Lama workouts.

Start the ride, end it after a few secs, delete ride before saving.

Open Zwift app on your Apple tv, Iphone or Ipad.

It should now show up in your Workouts folder.

I did a ramp test the other day, first time. Its a strange beast. All smiles for a few minutes then suddenly it goes from being ok to 'I can't breathe' in a few pedal strokes.

Scored about 10% below my 20 min FTP.

I also score lower on the step test than I do on either the 20min test or the 2 x 8min test

i think if you use your FTP value to structure proper training, then as long as you're getting the maximum training effect, then you should be fine. keeping in mind that two riders with the same FTP can have wildly different training requirements

I use TR virtual power on an old TACX Flow trainer. FTP test is simply a benchmark number when starting a workout plan, do the test when starting the plan, maybe in the middle of the plan and certainly at the end of the plan to check progress.

I think too many people complicate things by comparing their FTP using different protocols, and then stress out over which one they should use. Its more important  to measure your FTP through a test and device of your choosing, then stick to the same device and same test to measure your improvement after your workout plan is complete. Its pointless doing a FTP test on a wattbike in the gym then using those numbers on your IDT at home or visa versa.

^^^ THIS... then using the SAME device to do the training, and preferably on IDT to get full value from the session as doing intervals outside, esp HIIT, outdoors is pretty tricky with traffic, hills and all manner of other inconveniences.

I believe that consistency is key to proper training and at least make sure that at the end of the session, you're poeg, if it's sprints, endurance or whatever...
