I know! Sometimes you're stuck in traffic and you gotta go, so you just chimpanzee that **** out the window. Always end up getting some on the steering wheel.

Take it from someone who lives off bottled water. Here on the plaas our domestic plumbing runs solely off borehole(and rain) water. We buy (or collect) drinking water. As a result we have several bottles and containers in rotation. We've come to realise that the mold as a result of moisture can happen pretty quickly. I've seen it visibly develop in a wet bottle in as little as 2 days. So we have a system where our jugs, containers and water dispensers are sterilized with miltons before every refill. It takes seconds to do and a sterilized container can delay mold build up significantly. The smaller bottles we use for personal drinking water we just dispose of and replace weekly. So a six pack of 500ml bottles is usually good enough for the week. Except my laaities bottles. He refuses to drink out of anything but his spiderman bottle. Luckily, he doesn't know that there are several spiderman bottles in rotation and some unused backups for when they need to be replaced.

Wouldn't it be cheaper in the long run to get a reverse osmosis filter setup than buying bottled water?

You are alone on this one. Clean your bottles after every use.

With what?  Water?  O wait, that is what was in it in the first place...

FWIW, I am with OP!

Cheaper and less wasteful.

Skollie, what do you end up doing with the bottles? Recycling?

you clean freaks realise there is more fecal matter on your cars steering wheel than inside your bike bottles right :whistling:

Yeah but I hardly ever pour water on my steering wheel and lick it off....

Mobile phones are also dirty as hell but I don't lick those either!

You clearly aren't sexting well enough then...

Trust me, we've tried EVERYTHING. We have a pretty sorted filter setup and to put it simply. The rate of our consumption exceeds the rate at which we can purify enough available water to drink. Our holding has more that one separate dwelling. A total of 8 bathrooms collectively.

Its like Hotel Transylvania up in here. We do however save big time on rates. So in the grand scheme of things. Everyone sorting their own drinking water really is a very small price to pay.

Not super religious about it, but do put boiling water and let it stand for a few minutes before use.

Never had any issues. I have however retired a bottle when I discovered it at the bottom of my tri bag a couple of months after Ironman. Straight to the bin for that one; wasn't quite brave enough to open the lid and "experience"  the smell of 2 month old Chocolate Hammer

Yes the plastic is basically donated to the guys who collect from us and surrounds.

They take it off our hands and they get paid to recycle it.

Water and soap (diswashing liquid). Then rinse and leave to dry. It takes less than a minute.

I must say this washing of bottles was implemented after I once saw a waterbottle with a piece of snor stuck in the nozzle (not my bottle or snor). Wash those bottles please.
