Cois Posted July 17, 2019 Share Sorry guys. Was a tough day today. I do not cope well with MRI’s They gave me Dormicum to help rake the edge off. Got home, had a burger and fell asleep. Woke up at 18h00. The drugs just knocked me out, but needed the sleep.Will see the oncologist tomorrow to discuss the results. The MRI gave me a huge headache due to the noises. So will have to try to get that sorted as well. While waiting for the CD from the scan, we met a gentleman. Hi wife was diagnosed with breast cancer. Could at least tell him what to expect what chemo will do and what might happen and what is going to happen (chemo brain) Was kinda sad. They are in their late 60’s, and when he said he can’t be away from his wife for 6 months for the treatment, it just broke me. To see the love between them, was amazing... Cois Posted July 17, 2019 Share Cois we have been having one of those weeks, or rather the last couple of months .... Neighbour is 80+ and her only daughter in SA now has cancer, not doing well ... Friends 8 year old daughter is Type 1 diabetic. Been in hospital a LOT over the last months. She does TWO laps of the kiddies pump track at Bloemendal and her sugar DROPS !! One specialist after the other, her sugar has more ups and downs than a roller coaster .... Just seeing too many friends that are going through tough medical times ..... Cois we really are rooting for you, and hope the tide turns SOON !! Thanks for the message Chris. One thing that sucks about cancer is the amount of new people I see every time I get treatment. The last session I gave up my chair for a lady, because there were no open chairs in the treatment centre. They were filled beyond capacity. My treatment starts at 09h00 to about 16h30, but I am the youngest person getting treatment. And I was taught manners. Diabetes sucks big time! Don’t know if you heard about Marco Moolman yet. He is a avid cyclist with Diabetes as well. He was diagnosed at a very young age as well. Sad to say I have seen first hand (thanks to Steve Biko) what diabetes can do. Cois Posted July 18, 2019 Share Got some bad news. The Erbitux, FOLFOX, Folfiri and 5FU did not have the desired results that we hoped for. The tumor in my liver grew from 15mm to 19mm Waiting for the medical aid to approve the new treatment plan for Avastin and chemo tabs (hope it is not Xeloda) So feeling a little down and depressed at the moment. At least I can stop the antibiotics in a week. Will ask the Doctor if I can get in the sun and on my bike. It just needs to be managed properly Thank you Robert I am a Type 2 diabetic myself. Changed my lifestyle and eating habits .... From bordering on insulin injections I am now on the lightest dosage. VERY thankful !! Good friend, also a diabetic, lost part a few toes last year ... Another friend lost his leg, and a year later past away ... Sad as it is, there is something about being an adult and in SOME cases being able to manage the diabetes with a lifestyle change. Cois Posted July 18, 2019 Share Just a phone call. Sounds as if Avastin is more expensive than Erbitux. And slime bag tried to push a payment request through for the treatment plan that was stopped. Medical aid phoned and asked how I took the session yesterday and my wife said I did not have treatment yesterday.So it sounds like we have enough money for two treatments. Sending strength.Thanks Red Robin I lost a lot of trust in medicine to be honest.Just need to make sure if I am KRAS positive or negative. But if I am positive, I am moving to a new oncologist. I was informed that I am KRAS Positive.(KRAS ( K-ras or Ki-ras) is a gene that acts as an on/off switch in cell signalling. When it functions normally, it controls cell proliferation. When it is mutated, negative signalling is disrupted. Thus, cells can continuously proliferate, and often develop into cancer.) KRAS patients does not respond to Erbitux. So I was super pissed when I saw that the medical aid paid R100000 for treatment that does not work on KRAS patients. And it took me 5 minutes to find that information. And what pisses me off is that the information is on the web since 2009!!! How the F can I trust the doctor now? Now I am going to question every single thing that he tells me. Starting with do not use CBD and THC because it works against the chemo treatment that did not work because you are KRAS positive?Have you discussed this with the doc? Are you considering reporting that doctor to the health professionals council for a bit of probing? there's a 100 thousand reasons to look a bit closely.
