Thin paint/material on new Specialized bikes

LBS has inspected the bike and have submitted a warranty request to Spaz to try swap the frame out for one of the sandy beige models. Apparently these are a little harder wearing. Crossing fingers

For comparison, here's my 2012 Scott. Same bag has been on this bike for 3000km with same style rack

My bike has a matt spray job. Rode in mud abit, mud got between cables and down tube, rubbed through to bare metal

As far as I know the OP didn’t get his frame swapped. After riding mine a bit more and putting it on the bike rack 2-3 times a week I’m also noticing paint fading, coming off. Doesn’t bother me too much, but would probably have gone for a different colour if I knew this in advance.

My epic alu is over 5 years old and well over 20 000km on it. I fell a few times, use racks all the time without wrapping it in cotton wool. The only place where I see silver is on the rear stay where my shoe use to scrape it. Yes it has scratches but nothing where chips and scratches exposes metal. The paint faded a bit where I secure the battery for my daily commutes. My feeling, that was a k@k paint job.

After a bit of back and forth, the LBS said they will try swap out with a beige and orange version, but Specialized HQ denied the claim. If I wanted to pursue the matter further, I had to ship the bike (at my own cost) to them

 

I took some black nail polish and touched up the dings and made a downtube protector. I'm also a little more careful of how I transport the bike

What do these custom paint jobs cost on an alu frame? Probably same price as a new bike

Actually not. I PM'd Bogus about 2 years ago about a respray on my Scott and it was very affordable.

A mate of mine bought a brand new Camber.  Paint is bubbling in many places.  LBS not interested in resolving the issue.  Maintain it is not a warranty issue.

not sure how long the warranty is but as soon as it's resprayed say goodbye to it. But sounds like Spaz warranty means jack sh#t any way so nothing to loose????????

Not at all, but no point with getting hot under the coller if they just dismiss it as normal weat and tear. The way I see it, is my bike will eventually look like crap after enough falls, bike carriers, rocky trail riding ao not going to make a big deal if it. Probably not get another one though

That is a shocking response on their part and will weigh heavily on my mind when considering my next bike.

That;s just BS, I bought a bike that had paint issues within a week or so, the clear coat was coming off, wasn't an expensive bike like a Specialied.but it was a new bike..It took a bit of a whinge and a whine but they (the manufacturers as I bought it online) replaced the frame and had it rebuilt at their cost. I certainly wouldn't sit back and take that crap especially with what you pay for a Specialised. Screw the bike shop and take it up with Specialised themselves.
