XC7 feedback

the fit...exactly the same as my old SHXC31 ...the front is not snug like the old XC7 ...in fact i changed from a thin sock to a much thicker sock because when i tightened the bottom boa it started to deform the front of the shoe...pulling down in the front...i put on a pair of thick socks...much better.

the only discomfort i experienced while walking around with them on...the top strap digs into the muscle which runs from your shin down to the top of your foot...it seems the designed engineer paid attention to everything else except this minor detail...which anyone who tries on this shoe is gona notice straight away...i do believe it will wear in as the leather stretches...i took the thin socks that i had on and slid them under the strap...much better...i cant understand why they would cut a V into the tongue and not do the same to the strap...i might just cut it myself (maybe not ...warranty will be gone) i might sacrifice the warranty for comfort...will see once i have ridden the bike with them on.

one of the things you will notice from the old XC7 ...when you walk they seem to have bent up the front of the sole...so when you walk... it rocks  and doesnt feel like your heal wants to pop out the back on every step...thumbs up for that.

something else i noticed ...the new boa cant do like the old one did ...adjustment to loosen...you cant loosen the boa by one or 2 clicks...you can tighten but you have to pop open the boa to loosen it.

Will be interested to know if they shrink in the front (toe box) like the old XC7's did. Club mate of mine went through three pairs of the 2017 XC7 and Shimano replaced it each time till he got gatvol and the store credited him. He bough t Lake Shoes and has been happy ever since. I'm also a Lake convert but the XC7 always looked like really good bang for the buck

i am considering taking them back and getting a credit...getting tired of going back and back.

this strap issue is a big deal and makes the shoe extremely uncomfortable to wear.

dont you think it needs time to wear in a little ? its the same as buying any new shoe.

spent an hour this evening getting a second opinion from my wife...showed her the issue told her what the solutions might be and how i could maybe ease the pressure.

for example

- cutting a V into the strap so that it is the same as the tongue

- put a piece of material under the strap to ease the pressure.

she looked at me ...looked at the mark on my leg still from last nights ride (i had thick socks on) and said take the shoes back and get your money back and buy a pair of shoes which are comfortable.

as she said ...as soon as i modify the shoe in anyway...i can kiss my money goodbye...maybe this shoe has the same issue as the last pair...then what?

veebee i will send you pic and you tell me what you think.

I agree with your wife, cutting a new shoe sounds like a bad idea. If it were me, I would look at returning them and either buying the XC9 or as per the feedback on the forum, the Lake option looks good to me: https://lakeshoes.co.za/mtb

I like the XC shoes for all the reasons you mention i.e MTB, Road, walking around and only having to lug around 1 set of shoes for all.

I'm probably going to look at either the XC9 or Lake option based on the feedback. Its surprising and very sad that Shimano got something so wrong with the new model. The XC7 looks damn good imho!

it could have something to do with you pay for what you get...they copied the XC9 strap ...just left out the cushioning part...that would be a solution...to have a cushioned piece attached to the tongue...once again...your warranty would be out the window.

i had a good look at the XC9 yesterday...couldnt find a 2019 pair...only the older version on special...the tongue is were they missed the detail...most of the other shoes (brands) i looked at had either a V in the tongue (no strap...just the boa wire) or a cushioned piece on the tongue...i am sure once the return container starts to fill again they will address the issue.

i agree with you...it looks damn good...and everything else about the shoe looks and feels good...maybe if i toughen up and wear them in they might give.

or if i fit a thin strip of dayglo foam under the strap it will look like it belongs on the shoe ;)

or something else i thought of which might not affect the warranty...if i take the strap wet it or use dubbin and stretch the crap out of it over a steel pipe ...so that it fits the profile of my foot...it might work.

So i did just that...tried to stretch the crap out of the strap using a pipe...yesterday i used the shoes to ride 80 km...on the road.

left the strap fairly loose and cranked up the bottom boa a little tighter.

wore thick socks.

no numbness in the toes or toe box area...plenty of space compared to the older XC7.

one thing i enjoy about the sole...it is a solid platform when you stand up and put pressure on the pedals...but my was all over inside the shoe because of the loose strap...

got near the end of the ride and cranked close the strap a little...bad idea.

it is just too much of a hassle to take them back.

i will let you know if the straps takes the shape of my foot over time and get more comfortable...i dont know that the other fabric under the leather is as forgiving ...gona right this off as a bad purchase.

So i used a patch of sandpaper on the edge of the tongue. It took the sharp edge of and helped with comfort. Worth a try and doesnt cause damage to shoes.

Hi all,

Did not want to make an entirely new thread for just this question but I am looking for new road shoes.

The problem in my opinion in the sizing... I am looking at getting the S-Works 6. I tried the EU 44 at Tygerberg Cycles and they are definitely more narrow compared to my Shimano SH-R151s which sits a bit lose on my feet. Not that they felt uncomfortable or too tight. The BOAs made adjusting very easy and the shoes felt very snug on my feet.

My normal shoe size is 10, so I presume the 44 should be fine?

I did have a pair of Specialized MTB shoes which were 43 but of course, the road shoes differ in fit and shape.

Just don't want to buy the incorrect size and later on see it is not the right one after spending a pretty penny.

But I am very tempted, these shoes will fit my T-Mobile perfectly:

Andrew I bought my 2FO's from Tygerberg Cycles.  Mike helped me.

The Brit vs our shoe sizes had me going for a while .... Mike got different sizes from the store and we figured out what works best for my broad feet.

:offtopic:

DAMN, those 2FO's are SUPER comfortable !!  Saturday I put the shoes on at 4:45, drove with it, walked with it, cycled most of 30km (walking just a few hills), then walking at the finish point while waiting for the prize giving, some more driving and walking .... I was in those shoes for nearly 12 hours, and not once did it feel uncomfortable.  I am considering buying another set to use as ordinary tekkies ....

always a problem with sizing and the fit.

Why not try the Shimano Rc901/Rc701. They are wider than most brands and both have dual boa.

If looking for a wider fit then Lake CX/MX237 offers a brilliant fit with two boa system.

The competition last is my favourite. I have a broad fore foot with narrower heel than most for my shoe size so the Lake competition last is like a custom fit.

Shimano shoes are still too narrow in the forefoot for me.

I was checking out the size chart on the shoe (on Specialized's website), and UK 9.6 equals to 44.

My Shimano's inside according to the tag is showing 27.8cm.

I'm fairly confident the 43 will be too small for me but I will test it on Wednesday when I cycle to Stellenbosch at the Specialized store.

EU 44 is not a 10.
What's your shoe size in centimeters, listed as JPN size on the shoe box or size chart?

I have skinny, long feet with a narrow heel. So wider shoes won't work for me.
