Enduro/gravity bike suspension and geo

I guess it depends on which brands we find appealing as consumers. Everyone has different tastes. But Hope? Talk about a crowd-pleaser. Not trying to bash them. I give credit to where its due. Hubs and brakes? That prototype enduro frame? Sold. But then I look at that bar. I can't help but wonder how much of its appeal lies in the logo. Is it a good piece of equipment? You better believe it. They know, that we know, that as a brand they're not gonna let us down any time soon. So if they slap their name on it. You best believe they're confident in it as a product. In lieu of just that. Talking purely aesthetics now. Have we as consumers come to translate that brand confidence as bike porn? Is it pretty just because its hope?

Come to think of it. That's how I feel about Enve wheels. I mean sure. There's no debating the pedigree but if I'm honest. The primary reason I want them so badly is because of how beautifully they wrap their hoops in that logo.

I love Hope practicality. Made in Bernoldswick to survive terrible weather. If it doesn't survive, it is fully serviceable and every part replaceable. This is rad BUT...

Pimping your bike in matchey matchey Hope Bling is Pikey. I mean, does it actually look cool or are you just a man with an expensive Badazzler?

1000% Agree. I can't with all that purple and gold Hope cr@p. For me the Hope ship sailed a good few years ago. I've had 4 sets on various bikes and I'd far rather have a set of XT's over Hopes.

Matchy matchey is part of what makes a bike look good imo. If Shimano/Sram made an assortment of colors I would buy matchy matchy ones. What I do like about small companies is that it feels like they have kind of a rebel spirit and that is what draws me to them. That kind of clashes with my Shimano/Sram comment but they are more affordable (for me anyway) than Hope etc. The Spank stuff fits my budget, good quality and I like the pretty colors.

I have nothing against badazzling. I'm certainly guilty of it.

But I'm also guilty of poking fun at 'Enduro Barbies'

By this I mean the type to go riding dressed like an expensive lego mannetjie.

Matching brandsets and more colours than a box of smarties.

I have a few branded riding tops, fox, royal, dakine, etc. But also a couple of china cheapies. Namely these two which I almost always opt for just because I'm vain enough to think that my choice is a reflection of creative self expression.

I think it can still be done tastefully. Levers, calipers and pedals purple? Ooh that's nice. Seatpost clamp, stem, chainring and grips also in purple. Ok...a bit much but still looks good I guess. Wait your riding top is purple too? GTFO

All my stuff is elegantly matched too.

Black

Black

A little bit of black

And a bit more black

And then a blue pinstripe or 2. I think the blue is a bit much tho.

All black is apparently "slimming"

haha... I ride in anything. Golf shirts, check shirts, cut off jeans, baggies, home made 'technical fabric' t's.... if it's on top of the pile or I wore it to work it gets some saddle time.

Well no one needs it more than me. I wish I could wear even more black.

I would never go near hope a few years back and thought them to be over priced, rank colours and couldn't stand the hope fan boys.

Needless to say I got a set if wheels with hope hubs and they worked brilliantly, I can get every bit for them to service and replace when I had some Eastons that had bearing issues and the dealer flat out told me I should bin them as they were a couple fo years old and weren't supported any more. From there I tested the water with the brakes and coming off some Curas I wasn't going to be convinced easily but I got them at a bargain so what the hell. Black, couldn't be dealing with them being bling. They have been great and again you can get every bit you need. Not like Shimano, try finding a lever for a SLX or XT brake.

Now, I did something dumb and cracked with some new Kore pedals I purchased and got offered some Hope pedals and I went with them and as stupid as it may sound they are brilliant. Pedals are pedals right? Well yes and no because after Spank, Kore, Saint and DMR I can say that I don't ever think about where my foot is or feel them so Guess they are better.

I'm not going to be a Hope whore but what I've got has been great quality.
