Yes please. Stop being such a pussy and ranting on social media. It's as bad as the old pensioners writing/complaining in local news papers.

I'm very much on the fence here.

On the one hand I hate social media ranting more than anything, but on the other we as a cycling community also need to take each other to task for dangerous behavior.

We seem to rally together very nicely here on Hubland whenever some guy is doing some dodgy dealings in the classifieds and it gets posted on the forums.

Why should this be any different?

Dear OP,

John here,

I'm so gatvol of reading all these complaints about cyclists. Have you considered writing to the root of the problem and posting on the motoring forums your appeal for motorists to obey the law, leave their phones in the cubby hole and drive responsibly. Yes I know you may take some stick, even be unpopular for a while but it'll blow over on the 10th March when everyone will cheer for you and the stand you're taking. Be the change OP... Be the change.

Best regards,

John B. Walton

Posting here is not holding anyone accountable. If people feel so strongly about wanting to post this stuff on here then let's do it on a single dedicated thread? Just gets a bit tiresome going onto the active topics section and every second one is a letter addressed to someone that is never going to read it, and on the off chance they do probably won't care.

In person or on the hub I say post what you see and feel it important to point out to other cyclists and road users.

People are getting killed and horribly injured because of our poor road behaviour and the more we hold each other accountable in whatever fora our community uses the better.

People are getting killed due to horrible driving... Not horrible cycling.... #justsayingitlikeitis

Instead of getting frustrated with the number of posts calling out cyclists, rather take note of the trend. It’s obviously a problem.

Let’s take note the of constructive criticism and action change, be it you yourself or those that are part of your riding group.

Show me the stats where horrible cycling resulted in the death of the cyclist vs horrible driving resulting in the death of cyclists

Not debating that bad driving causes infinitely more fatalities and injuries than bad cycling. But I do not need to see stats to know that bad cycling is ocassionaly also the cause for accidents/deaths. I have seen with my own eyes guys on bikes running a red light and being narrowly missed by the car going over a green light, or the guy riding off a sidewalk into the street right in front of a car, or the guy riding with no lights on a dark road in the middle of the night/early morning.

Saying that cyclists are never the cause of an accident is just not accurate at all.

I did not say never so no words in my mouth please.

So in the time it took you too describe three bad cycling incidents I witnessed 47 moving violations by motorists; two of those involved cyclists being cut off by a car turning left right in front of the cyclists.

The count is now up to 61

But ya hey I guess flashing red lights must be the root cause

Just reading some of the posts here I can't help but come to the conclusion that we are the problem. We don't like posts that show us up when we do something wrong or could improve our safety, in fact we attack the poster. We rely on statistics that suggest that the motorist is almost always at fault. Therefore we don't have to do anything they must change, all we have to do is point fingers in the opposite direction and we'll be okay. For a bunch of intelligent people we can really be stupid.

Mmmmm, how do you notice 47 moving violations by motorists in the short period of time?

Are you sitting next to the road, watching the goings on, or you travelling and texting and driving?

yeah, like the clown this morning (black bike with yellow looking decals, dual sus I think, black kit) cruising straight through on a red light with cars waiting for a green turn-only arrow. Whoever you are dude, I time that robot to cross the very instant the arrow disappears and I get green, so your stunt is going to get you killed and me in jail.

Not putting words in your mouth. You said people get killed by horrible driving, not horrible cycling.

I said they do get killed by horrible cycling too... although to a much lesser extent than driving.

I used three examples, there are many more.

Whether you like to admit it or not - bad cyclists are a problem just like bad drivers are a problem - maybe to a much lesser extent than drivers, but ignoring it does not change facts.

Talk about putting words in someone's mouth - I did not say cyclists jumping red lights are the root of the problem.

The root of the problem is both cyclists and motorists that believe they can do whatever they want. Calling for drivers to behave and not at the same time calling out cyclists that ignore laws is just hypocritical.

I'd hate to see you go to jail for someone else's stupidity when you are just abiding by the laws (of the road) and happen to be at the wrong place at the wrong time
