shyambhana@ub-it.co.za Posted February 5, 2019 Share Hi there I am currently in the market for a new bike. I have seen the giant tcr and silverback sirelli 2Both are carbon frame and fork. Both are 2019 105 groupset. Giant comes with disc breaks at R1000 more, however they only make it in the loud orange vs the silverback in a clean black and normal brakes. I am familiar with giant but not familiar with silverbackHoping someone can assist me in making a fair comparison. Looks wise the silverback is more appealing and I am leaning towards it, but afraid it isn't going to compare to the giant Please assist
Breezer Posted February 5, 2019 Share I am a big silverback fan and they do make very good bikes, but for R1000 more I would go for the disk brakes. I do not see why we need disk, but it is the future and in 5 years time when you want to upgrade nobody would want a normal brake bike anymore. Veebee Posted February 5, 2019 Share I ride the Silverback Sirelli 2 2016, which has Ultegra and back then was specced a bit better. Came with carbon bars, better wheels etc.Nothing wrong with both, just buy the one you like. Disc brake not such a big thing imo.
Veebee Posted February 5, 2019 Share Why not buy 2018 ?? https://bike-addict.co.za/collections/road-bikes/products/silverback-sirelli-disc-2018
shyambhana@ub-it.co.za Posted February 5, 2019 Share Thanks was worried initially the silverback would be inferior. Also not dependent on the discbrakes but a valid point on resale. Re buy 2018. The 2019 is the same price. I believe the 105 2019 is the 2018 ultegra so it would be getting more bike for the same price(2019)Unless I am incorrect Thanks for the advise
Veebee Posted February 5, 2019 Share you can forget about resale... the second hand market is huge so trying to get back most of what you spent is almost impossible these days. Nothing wrong with Silverback, go read more about them and you will see that there's no reason to be concerned.
shyambhana@ub-it.co.za Posted February 5, 2019 Share Thanks the 2018 ultegra vs 2019 105?Is my understanding correct that it's the same thing you can forget about resale... the second hand market is huge so trying to get back most of what you spent is almost impossible these days. Veebee Posted February 5, 2019 Share Thanks the 2018 ultegra vs 2019 105?Is my understanding correct that it's the same thing yeah well the techonolgy does get passed down the line. 105 is still a very good groupset. Have to consider though, some 2018 bikes still had the old ultegra version R6800 vs the later 2018 bikes which came out with the ultegra R8000, so you may find some difference with those. Wannabe Posted February 5, 2019 Share I have a 2019 Sirelli 2. Done close on 1000km in the few weeks I have it. It is a huge improvement on my previous all carbon bike (which was fitted with the Corolla of the groupset world, the trusty 105 groupo, only in 10spd)This bike is very stable in corners, it rolls really well on the Vision 30 wheelset. Not a slouch on the climbs either, the saddle is really comfortable (better than my old Fizik Kium) Only "negative" for me is the muted colour scheme (only available in the dark grey/black) as I like my bikes to be a bit more colourfull.Stock out of the box, with old Look Keo Classic pedals and Carbon bottle cages, it weighs in at 8.36 kg. Not bad, with a lot more scope for weight loss, if you are that way inclined.

I think we not to stop telling ourselves the lie that we are buying something in order to get a good resale on it in the future. It's the biggest lie we tell ourselves when making big purchase decisions. The reality is that when you resell you are going to get bent over and assaulted so why not just be open and honest and say I want the bigger, shinier one because I WANT IT. And stop thinking we are stupid and that we believe you are buying it for the "Resale Value". Veebee and peetwindhoek
Long Wheel Base Posted February 6, 2019 Share I ride a previous model TCR so am biased but nothing wrong with silverback. Disk brakes is the future but you probably won't really notice the difference and as it has been said already the resale thing is null and void for both bikes. I am also not a fan of the bright colours of the new Giants, mine is still matte black with a slight hint of blue. Nothing at all wrong with the new 105. If you are set on the disks then get the TCR and send it to bogus if you still got a few zar left over. NotSoBigBen Posted February 6, 2019 Share I know everyone says that disc brakes make no difference and for every day riding in normal conditions I would say I've not really noticed a difference either BUT I did some pretty sketchy descending in the rain this passed Sunday and there I am of the opinion I did notice ... Then again many fair weather cyclists will never get into that situation I guess Jase619

Martin PJ Posted February 6, 2019 Share I bought the 2018 Silverback Sirelli 2 for my son last year. It really is a great bike for the price, there are no "economy" parts on the bike, e.g. stem, seat post, saddle, usual parts bike manufacturers try to down spec a bit to save money. It has carbon everything, the ultegra 6800 groupset is flawless. The wheels are Fulcrum which is owned by Campagnolo. Veebee
Jase619 Posted February 6, 2019 Share LOL, loud orange Too each his own, but you will never loose that bike in a crowd. I quite like it.

I see they are now supplying with alloy bars and a more mid range wheel. Just small things to take note of but still good value for money.
