Scott Spark sizing

Question to the Spark riders,

I am 176cm tall and have been riding a large camber. Was on a medium for years before this.

Looking at getting a Spark and have been told the Scott sizing is slightly bigger than other brands? Is this true?

I have found a great deal on a 2018 but only available in medium.

Not in the country at the moment so cant go stand with the actual bike and not sure if it will be to small, just looking for a guideline as to what size others are riding

Thanks

Scott Bikes size guide suggests the Medium is able to fit a rider from around 170cm to 180cm

The large takes a rider around 178 to 188cm.

You're probably closer to the medium size possibly with a 80-90mm stem

The new Sparks have more progressive reach than most XC bikes and really shouldn’t be ridden with 90mm stems.

OP, find a large. Trust me.

I'm 1.84m and on a Large Spark RC. When I went for bike fitting I was marginal between L and XL. My guess would be you're going to be marginal between M and L. If only it was as easy as just considering your length to make a choice.. Is there no bikeshops where you are at now with new Sparks you can feel the M and L before making a choice?

Hey I thought you said you are not big into Scott bikes!

That guide is a thumbsuck based purely on height.  Not taking inseam or torso lengths into account.

I am 1,87m and there is no way in hell I can fit on a large.

Ok there is one way in hell, I can fit on a Large and that would be with a 500mm seatpost.

I'm not but its a bike fit question :) and I had to go to their website to find the fit info

Yip their guide doesn't take torso length into account nor arm length but I find that for 70-80% of people the charts works quite well. Those with longer than normal legs  or shorter than normal legs well ya then sizing down is it.

AS for 90mm stems not belonging on an XC bike .......phhhfftt bah humbug. Its an XC bike with a slack head angle...it can accomodate a stem up to 90mm without affecting the handling. Also provides some stability at speed.

I am 1.70m and currently riding a Medium Spark,

Had bike fit done and currently riding comfortably on it.

Also 90mm stem fitted

I do think you should still be okay on the M.

What would Nino do?  :whistling:

Mark I am also 1,76, and bought the Spark 940 in L.

The seat to pedal measurements of the M does not work for me ....

That said, I needed a 12mm hack to get the seat height sorted .....  REMEMBER, the bike comes with a dropper seat post which means the lowest extended seat height is still pretty high ...

so best to make SURE of your inseam, shoes, etc and if this really works for you.

That said, I am GLAD I did go for L.  It just "feels" right in all aspects.

I rest me case ;)  Those that ride or have ridden Scott can comment out of experience.

Size will remain a personal choice and it's best to get on the bike and try for yourself.

Lance is out of popcorn, after his last court case, he still owes some people popcorn.

But I have ridden one. I'm Nino's height (172cm) and a medium with 70mm stem was perfect. Saddle in the middle of the rails with 0mm set back post.

I actually prefer the longer 90mm stem because it just feel lekker racy but I can;t hold that aero position for long on the mtb or my neck gets sore soI go for a more upright postion.

My current bike has a 60cm top tube with a 80mm stem, 9 degree back sweep 740mm bar.

Mark is 176cm, thats not much taller.

At the end of the day whether he's looking at a Scott, Santa Cruz,Cannondale or Specialized it doesn't matter. He'll be at the upper end of the size medium or lower end of the large.

Back to guessing on height alone.  That's great because you have now eliminated Small and Extra Large.

There will be people of 176cm on mediums and on larges.

They will fit on either but one of the two will work better than the other.

Does Mark have long legs with a short torso or short legs with a long torso?

If long legs, go for the Large.

If short legs, go for a bike fit. :P
