Been a good season.

Granted, the results were not so good ...

LOTS of lessons learnt !

Maritz is gradually becoming more confident riding in these large groups.

For us the most important part being that he had lots of fun.

and so SPUR 2019 is wrapped up

OVERALL results :

Go to Trailtag

Select the #4 Paul Roos event

TOP-RIGHT there is a GREEN block for the overall results.

PS - bit if a discussion on how totals are accumulated.

1) TOTAL points for each rider towards the school, as per rule 8.12.3 from SASC

2) the annual totals per riders is however a total of only their best three scores.  (might be better to update the rules, or apply the rules that are published .... the odd parent may take exception .....  moving use from 66 to 55 would hardly impact the time the sun is going to rise tomorrow morning ....  :P

Putting my daughter to bed tonight she's decided she wants to ride harder and faster next year.  She wants a top 10 finish.  Big ask going into sprogs.  I told her to just enjoy it.  My son, he just wants to ride.  Doesn't care about position.

Similar situation here, my son can't be bothered, I tell him to start at the back and stay out of trouble and that is exactly what he does - having a chilled ride, laugh at the kids that crash because they push too hard, finish with a smile and not in the least bothered with his position.

My daughter finishing dead last and in tears in the 1st race, but with a bit of practice she improved every race and in the last 2 finished just outside the Top 10. Was very tempting to push her just that bit harder to get into the points but had to remind myself that this is all just for fun...

I love how the Spur events pushed both my kids out of their comfort zones to suffer a bit and still overcome, and both of their cycling skills improved exponentially over the past few months.

just to add - I hope the organisers rethink the Paul Roos setup for next year, was really cramped at the start/finish area. Also not great from a spectators point of view as you can't see the route at all

The points rules on website as far I know is old... I will try find latest (but don't hold your breath). It changes each season and each province have own rules as well.  I can tell you how the points on the site is calculated if you really want to know..  .

Is she Nippers?  Kenridge?  My daughter finished 12/14/12 in the last 3 races.  She said she chatted to some girls who finished about the same place before and after the rides and said they were all very nice.  If it's the one from Kenridge they rode together quite a bit (need to check the GoPro). I think there will be some lekker rivalry next year.

She was a Sub-Nipper - so on the same course but probably not chatting  ^_^

Agree with your earlier post that the vibe/rivalry among the younger girls are quite friendly. The courses are tough on the little ones but they really impressed me with their determination.

Would be nice to get ONE clear set of rules for the Primary school kids, and another for the High school kids.

The current set of SASC rules would be a very good start.   And even if they decide to keep it as is, then just apply it consistently .....

With Maritz being part of the second half of the field we certainly are not impacted by the small issues in the rules.  So PLEASE see my comments as positive input.

How are the points calculated ?  The SASC shows the tables and marks per place etc, etc ....  They are using these points, but just forgot to add all the points for the full season, as per the same set of rules .....    OR, are they using a different system which just happens to be similar in parts to the SASC system ?

They use the SASC, but also with own bylaws.

The points system calculation changed 2018 from 2017. 2019 is using 2018 ruleset. The SASC rule book is "suggestion" so its up to the province to make there own. (NW use different points allocation).

It used to be that there was difference points allocated between race group sizes, now its only depending on male/female , Female getting 15 points for win, male getting 35 in WC , NW its 15/25

The schools get all points off all riders for said school.  Each rider gets highest  3 points for the season , lowest points get dropped.  If there tie between points, the last race position determine the winner. So if 2 people have 150 points and 1 win last race, that person is winner.

Seeding takes the top 50 based on points, if same points, then last race determine position.

There is no difference between primary/secondary school regarding points. Home schools don't get any points. kids from other regions can participate, but no points allocated (you get points only if you race in own region).

Hope that make sense

If there is any calculations that is wrong, PLEASE drop Spur guys an email, if you don't come right there, drop me PM so I can check.  I think points has been finalized, so doubt can change it, but can fix it for next year.

I’m assuming the race numbers are “for life”

Was for this season .. but might change next year... Its creating problems such as where people go race without entering/paying as they already have a number.....

The back of the board says "Number for 2019" .... Also there was a story of the "number groups" linking to the age groups, or so I read it ....

So I took the gamble and made his wall piece ....  :w00t:

Worst case it will cost me R50 for a new number next year ....

That makes absolutely no sense.

All other things being equal, there is no possible way a girls school can beat a boys school
