I think you might be wrong on this. Done a few races where there were a couple of chicks in A batch who rode the k@k out of us.

Have noticed they tend to ride shrewd as well: wheel suck but ensure they stay in the front of the bunch so they can catch any breakaway....ie directly in line with what pro's do...eat other peeps plate empty before you start on your own

While there may be many races where they will, I still believe they will not in the 947 due to the profile of the route.

Past results confirm this.

So I understand; Do you mean there is a lot of climbing in 947 vs other races?

Please also elaborate which results you are referring to which back up your point.

PS: not looking to pick a fight; simply trying to understand what you base your thinking on

I will actually consider doing the 40km next year... with the two little ones in the trailer, wife on her bike.... fun family outing.

This 40km option can only be good for the event.

The rides I enjoy the most are our family ones but we always make it fun and have lunch or breakfast afterwards.

I love doing the Nissan Trail Seekers with my children.  They are very proud of their medals and later the fridge magnets.

I would say the nature of the climbs would benefit male athletes more, they are short and punchy climbs where it will be difficult for women to stay with the A batch accelerations. I am not referring to the part of the A batch that rides slower than the front of the B batch in my reasoning.

I am referring to this and previous years' 947 results.

Edit: But I still believe if their seeding is good enough they should be allowed to ride there, as per my original post.

Guess we gonna have to agree to disagree.

In my experience women (as most lighter riders) tend to struggle on the faster flat races and keep up fairly easily when the road goes up (you ever tried to follow Ashleigh on a climb??).

Also think you can't look at previous 947 results as women have never been able to ride in A. If you look at something like Berge en Dale (similar distance and elevation) the chicks ride a pretty similar pace to A batch

I think it is related to seeding results that are obtained after a lady in A-batch can get a finish time faster than the winning women. It probably skews the beta values.. Just a guess however, but I am sure there is a reason behind it.

Exactly. Some girl I know of (not very strong on MTB) was “racing” faster from A batch than the elites. Obviously there is some pushing and helping from the guys...

I guess so.

Looking at this year's 947, there were 3 women in the A batch, placed 221,231,269 out of 290.

Berge en Dale in my opinion is a small race, this year two ladies made it in the A bunch. The one is an elite athlete for years (she came 3rd in the 947 this year). The other one lost touch with the group about halfway.

yeah, I think I'll drop Ashley on the short steep stuff, not on the long climbs no.

Just a note: The results places a lady in the A batch at 2h37m25s, that was not a lady.

Out of interest, where did you come in A batch this year?

That's why I struggle soo much  :whistling:.

Well, the current route favours the lighter riders and very strong climbers. The constant sharp hills are so close together for the first half, culminating in the long drag up through craighall and past the Zoo up to NM bridge, that recovery is very difficult, allowing lighter riders great chance to break away and attack regularily.

The Motorway is quite short to make up lost ground for the heavier diesel engine riders, and Summit road provides the last gasp grind to try catch up after Kyalami/Midfeed hills.

IMO the new way round is tougher.

I weigh 95kg at 6'4".

I rode in B with my wife

Did your wife get seeded in B?

I was under the impression that women did not get seeded further forward than D (unless you make a special plan)

She was seeded in %.

We decided to ride together, and as per the rules dropped back to B.

And no, I don't think she would have stayed with the A batch.

I sense this is starting to get personal, where I was only stating the facts.

Preach brother. I am 92kg, 6'2"

Come ride Rooiwal BSSS races, same distance, with half of the total climbing.

You can do all the climbing staying in the 50 tooth chainring....

Nope nothing personal. Was just trying to understand your reasoning as you seem well informed.
