Mtb Shoe Advice

Hi guys,

Been reading shoe reviews/posts here and need some advice/opinions please.

I've just started cycling having bought a Silverback MTB.

Been using my Nike wild trail shoes and after a while i end up with sore feet and would like proper shoes for flat pedals.

Alot of recommendations for Five Ten shoes and I've just seen these Shimanos

https://www.buycycle.co.za/mountain-bike/shimano-am500-mountain-bike-shoe-black/

Problem is I'm in Dbn and no local store keeps them

What are the size cuts like....Are they normal....ie Size 9 in a normal shoe will be the same fit as a Five ten size 9....Buying online means chancing it with sizes but seems I'll have to.

Then the cost of Five Ten Freeriders are almost R700 more than the Shimano's in the above link. Are they worth the extra cost?

I'll be venturing into trail riding soon and would like something suited to this.

Thanks in advance.

Those Shimano's are spd. They look frikking awesome though and you might be able to find a cover for the spd cut out parts.

5/10s are definitely worth the extra cash but only if they're matched with good pedals. One without the other just doesn't work. Ib wear size 8s and the fit is true.

Go to a spaz store, get the 2FO's or the cheaper variant that has a slightly less rugged feel and less protection in the toe area.

2k and they're wonderful.

Also - check out the ION options. Really rad shoes, but a little on the thinner side if you have fat feet.

LOVE my 2FO's

"Best Bikes Durbanville" has a new type of flat shoes as well, apparently a German product.  Sorry, cant remember the brand name ...

I've been to the dark side  , it's taken me probably three months now to find proper flat shoes. Mostly because businesses were out of stock (new stock arriving this month) and the fact that the options for flat shoes in SA is pretty poor.

Email this guy and ask him ( baltazar@trailtechcycles.co.za ) he has been absolutely amazing and his service has been second to none. There is a new brand of flats launching today and available to SA customers. I'm buying me and the wife a pair, the reviews have been very good. Read up about it if you want https://www.mtb-mag.com/en/tested-ride-concepts-hellion-shoe/

Pop Balt a message and I'm sure he'll sort you out in no time.

My partners at Get Stoked Distribution (previous distributor for FiveTen in SA) have just landed their first shipment of the much lauded RideConcepts shoes and will likely have a colour to suite your style.

Having ridden with 5.10 shoes for 90% of my riding career I can definitely say these compare well - most noticeably in their ability to last a lot longer than 5.10.

You can find the various models of shoes we bring in here:

https://getstoked.store/brands/ride-concept/

We are still in the process of launching our B2C portal so for now if you need them urgently we are happy to get in touch with your preferred LBS and let them know the prices.

Drop me a line on: marc@getstoked.co.za

Alternatively our B2C will be live in about a week in which case you can order from home and collect from your nearest listed dealer.

Cheers!

What are the prices for these shoes, obvious there isn't anything on the site at the moment.
