As much as I agree with you, we also have our own beauty up here.

Week before last I was up and down the "koppie" there in Linksfield. Fantastic views of teh city.

Last week I was sweating my way around SBR and that also has some fantastic scenery.

Yeah for sure. But getting there is a bit boring.

Remind me of my rides back in the 80's. We stayed in the Northern 'burbs and my ouma stayed in the Strand.  So on a Sunday afternoon, switch off brain and suffer on that flat road into the SE for a cup of coffee.

Then hoping for a tailwind back.

There were some very cruel days where the wind turned during the kuier into a NW, and it was suffering both ways!!!

On my way into work everyday, it's a head wind. Then around lunch time the wind does a 180 and I have a head wind back home. Every now and then I have an exception and that's when strava tells me that was easier than your usual effort but I have some PRs.

Cape Town to Langebaan. Then get the wife to pick you up there.

Been wanting to do this for a while now. Only one other person i known is keen, but he is out of cape town most of the time.

Slight hi-jack but how safe is the West Coast road for cycling? I know there is a big shoulder but the road can be pretty busy and cars travel at high speed, almost like a national road - a bit weary of riding out that way, especially on my own

Never feel safe there with the high-speed metal. But no close calls.

Yeah, when it's gusty out there and I may get blown over 'off my line'

I pick a 4 minute gradient and do reps or loops that.

At FTP or torque work or fasting.

Bang for buck.

The MTB ride from Rhodes Memorial to Constantia Neck is relatively wind free when the Southeaster is howling because a large part of it is in the forest. Unfortunately that won't keep you busy for 3 hours......ok, well, maybe old farts like me will do 2 loops in 3 hours?

Otherwise, when it is REALLY HOWLING, any 20 to 30 km straightish road into the wind will give you a workout you will remember. Melkbos to Woodbridge Island on the Cycle Path anyone?

Straight into the SE. Muizenberg, Fish Hoek, then things hot up in glen Cairn. 600W for 7min

then onto Cape Point and let the wind blow me to Ocean View.

Chappies is interesting and Suikerbossie the wind always blows in your face. then through to Town and back to s/burbs via M4.

Superb!

Beats a windless day in Gauteng anyday

Great road to drive on but yes, I think I'll stick to quieter roads when cycling

Yes, referring to cycling there 2-3 times there, looping back down via Melkies.

Bit of a breezy weekend coming for these theories to be put to the test.

From the northern suburbs I would cycle out to Franschoek via Stellenbosch, and then come back with the tailwind (for most of the route)

What's your favourite weekend (3hr) ride in Cape Town when the South Easter is blowing?

Climbing fest in Bishops court and Constantia around Kirstenbosch and Nek.
