If this is going to change the world of pickups, trucks and bakkies, might as well get stuck in now before the rest of the industry starts catching up..

I don't see this as good looking. At all. The memes about it are very aesthetically appealing though ;)

Here it is in a tug o war with an F150, going uphill...

Musk's marketing line: better truck than an F-150, faster than a Porsche 911.  :whistling:

oh and the embarassment of the unbreakable window breaking during the livestreamed debut, was apparently attributed to the banging on the door with a moerse hammer before they chucked steel balls at the windows: the door wacking caused cracking. not sure i'm buying..

Tesla’s head honcho took to Twitter to detail why the side window cracked following an impact with a steel ball thrown by the company’s chief designer, Franz von Holzhuasen. After what must’ve been some in-house analysis, they arrived at the conclusion the order chosen to do the sledgehammer and steel ball tests was incorrect as it should’ve been the other way around. Smashing the door with the sledgehammer apparently cracked the base of the window, thus making the “armor glass” more fragile.

Ok, but what about the rear window? As you probably remember, the test with the steel ball was repeated with the rear glass and had a similar result, even though the man who used the sledgehammer only smashed the front door panel. While the tweet doesn’t explain this, some are saying the Cybertruck did not have the “armor glass” in the back as per a yet-unconfirmed statement made by a Tesla employee at the event.

Specs:

Tesla claims it has made this bakkie virtually dent, scratch and bulletproof – all features which would be very useful for a utility vehicle, destined to be used in testing off-road conditions.

Tesla has also chosen to engineer its Cybertruck as an unibody bakkie, instead of the traditional body-on-frame configuration popularised by most of its rivals. This monocoque design will give this Cybertruck outstanding high-speed handling dynamics and cornering agility.

A comprehensive air-suspension system will balance ride quality over all terrain types and give the Cybertruck an impressive 406mm of ground clearance.

Tesla is willing to confirm the Cybertruck’s performance, but not its battery specification or power outputs. The range, which is due for delivery in 2021, will be three derivatives strong and they will all be configured as all-wheel drive.

In its most basic trim, the Cybertruck will feature a single electric motor. That will enable it to run 0-100km/h in 6.5-seconds, go for 400km before requiring a recharge and tow 3.4t.

A dual-motor version is good for 0-100km/h in 4.5-seconds, has 482km of range and will haul 4.5t.

The tri-motor Cybertruck will be a veritable super-bakkie, capable of 0-100km/h in 2.9-seconds, 800km of range and 6.3t of towing capacity. All three of the Cybertruck bakkies are rated for an impressive 1.6t of load capacity on the back.

The Tesla bakkie will also offer a very spacious cabin architecture, with seating for up to six. The styling is beyond radical and many bakkie traditionalists will require convincing to move away from a proven market of ladder-frame vehicles, yet there is no arguing that Cybertruck’s specification is deeply impressive.

On looks: O my word they missed the boat by so much, I think the project leader needs to be demoted to incoming goods inspection officer.

It looks nothing like any of the other Tesla's out there. Why not use the brand you have already established.

Daft.

Hey, don't be so harsh! If someone gave you a ruler and tasked you with designing a car without a single curve on it anywhere, could you do any better? Even the rims aren't round...  :P

Lol, that is horrible to look at. Looks like a car from budget scifi movie!

ARGH RSA is not on the list of countries. I am not ordering one but it would still have been cool to design my own one. $100 puts your name on the order list.

Elon Musk being a Saffa boytjie, knows full well that he is not in the market of competing with Flippie en sy Hilux, oom Fanie en sy Ranger and Japie met sy Isuzu oppi' plaas. Here a bakkie is a work horse, not a show pony. I am still not buying in to the electric motor hype as yet, and I honestly don't see how that will ever take off in Africa. This continent is not geared up for 1st world hype yet, and likely won't ever be.

You called?

And I drive a Ranger, I'm slightly allergic to Yota (my redheaded stepchild truck that spends too much time at the mechanic is a Hino. Toyota's truck division.)

I agree, The Tesla is aimed at the Leisure side of the market, if they wanted to capture commercial sales, they would need single cans and clubcabs. VW shifted their focus to leisure and dropped the singlecab Amarok, Mazda as well.

That being said, as someone who works his bakkie hard, and has a rather huge fuel account, I am interested in the Tesla if the sales talk and real life performance is aligned. But I reckon the long range and huwe towing capacity is mutually exclusive.

People like me are enamored with diesel, but a lot of farmers have already put big solar installations in to power their operations, plugging in a bakkie will be skimming off the top.
