As far as I know the US standards are far less strict on pedestrian impact, which is why you have Ford building this with the same frontal area as an entire barn

hmm, that little fact is going to make the safety aspect very very interesting; Tesla in general has made a huge effort in nailing american vehicle safety standards. If standards governing trucks are generally lower, and if Tesla sticks to its current approach to safety, it could significantly move the bar on truck safety standards. That will hit other truck manufacturers very hard in the feels.

That thing gets uglier every time I look at it.

IMO. When it comes to EV's the real market is motorcycles. The entire vehicle is basically a motor so there's much less to push around. To my mind if you REALLY wanted to save the planet with EV's that's where you'd start. Specifically the tiny bike market.

But fat yanks aren't going to form an orderly queue and buy an electric Honda Cub are they?

Been around for a while in SA, have a look at the Zero Motorcycles https://thebikeshow.co.za/fire-it-up-and-performance-technic-become-zero-electric-motorcycles-service-centre/

I didn't know Ford offered a "wheels in proportion to driver tottie size" optional extra, for their their F range.

Is it compared with an inverse correlation?

How would you charge it in SA?

What sort of power does it require to charge?

My local Nissan dealer has 2 parking pays outside the showroom with chargers for Leafs. TBH I have never seen them occupied but it's also not like I am there everyday. But if I owned a EV, I certainly wouldn't be parking at my local dealership everyday for a few hours for it to charge.

As I understand it you're recommended to put a charger in your garage at home. Slow home chargers are cheaper (i.e. charge overnight), the dealers install superchargers which fill you up much quicker, but they cost more.

Its basically like USB. 1mA, 2mA or 4mA depending on how fancy your charger is.

If they find a way to sell this thing with a big enough solar panel for you to recharge it to something close to full during the day then I think they will own the farm bakkie market.

So if you were able to get one here(somehow), you would be able to charge it?
