Underachiever: I work in Stellies, so will pop in their tomorrow, thanks

sywurm: Strange, I sent him an email with info, pricing from bike addict and a thread on here on that exact same bike earlier today  ;-)  You still happy with yours?

I also said he shouldn't throw away "new" used bikes"

What are your thoughts on this one?

Although no dropper and what I think is a heavier and more entry level shock - ??

I love Giant, had an XTC, loved it.  Now I have a Stratos.  When I was shopping for a dual suspension, all I wanted was the Anthem, until the Stratos popped up on my Facebook wall.  End of story.

When I got my Stratos, all that was available as the AL5.

Go for the Silverback.

Thanks for the feedback. At this point, the Silverback is still in the lead ( ever so slightly)  ;-)

Ok fair enough. His money, not mine. New is always lekker.

EDIT: sorry went back to your first post and saw you said it's for your buddy.

Ask the Gaint dealer if they still have some of last years Trance stock so the previous model - they tend to be well discounted.

Yeah good idea and it is still a new bike.

For the experts-does the stance have the maestro suspension? I could very well be wrong but I think it doesn't. That being said, the guy wanting the bike probably won't notice the difference between maestro and anything else.

The Stance has Flex Point suspension which is the same as a few other brands.

https://www.giant-bicycles.com/int/showcase/flexpoint-suspension

FlexPoint Suspension Technology

A proven “single-pivot” design that uses the flexing action of the chainstay/seatstay junction to produce a lightweight and durable suspension system with 4.7 inches/120mm of rear travel.

Thanks, is it as good as maestro or a case of different tool for different job?

It's different to Maestro, not necessarily worse or better. Plenty bikes use the linkage driven single pivot. Scott Spark and Cannondale Scalpel are two I can think of
