this is a properly weird thread and completely out of nowhere. lockdown loco!

anyone else got love for the Spaz Phenom saddle? at about ZAR 1,400 its a veritable Mr Price alternative to this 9 grand madness

Phenom is my choice too. On the road bike I have a Romin. Although when I bought the Romin i thought I was buying a Phenom, only noticed when I got home. They look so much the same.

Romin is also a very comfy saddle ... a bit firmer than the Phenom, but personally I like a firm saddle.

Great saddle, nice and firm too.

Tried it on my MTB a few years back, the only reason I never kept it was due to the point at the rear catching on my shorts when hanging off the back of the bike on tech section.

Had a Tundra that was also really awesome, nice and firm, could spend hours in this saddle .... seems many people though could not gel with it.

Ha ha!! I did the exact thing and ended up with a tundra before selling the mtb

New bike came with a Giant saddle, tried getting bu butt used to it, but eventually put the old Arione off the old bike on, straight away it was like sitting on your favorite spot on the couch.

I tried the arione with the hole in the middle with carbon rails etc. did not gel.

My San Marco short fit carbon costs 1/4th the price, works for me on 6 hours rides, I don't need to ride longer than that, and its lighter than this 10k piece... what are these fools thinking.

I got one for zero SA Rondt from a friend ... the cover was torn .... a glass of wine, some free time while the braai fire was going and I reupholstered the saddle in some scrap leather, put her on the commuter and done at least around 20,000 km on her .... still perfect and exceptionally comfortable.

Personally I love slating Spaz Fever, but their contact point items, shoes and helmets are really good products.

9,5K for a 3D printed saddle is really a bit of a laugh though.

fully agree with this - I'm not a fan of their bikes, but imho their kit is head and shoulders better - my bike has spaz bottle cages, phenom saddle, and i have spaz shoes and helmet.  Their kit is superb

Not having much bodywork on my chassis I understand the quest, and what peops are prepared to pay, for a "comfortable" saddle; as far as such unobtanium exists. I have a Spez which is the best so far after the fizik gobi, WTB etc etc.

But R9.5k; surely this is the price when you are smousing such a thing on Day 3 or 4 of the Epic?

Way back I remember reading an Andrew McC Epic prep article and he noted that one lady had a sheepskin cover on her saddle and this had to be locked up against theft after Day 3 or so.
