Trying to help a friend out who is on a budget, and needs to replace his cycling computer after some alternative shopping took place in his garage.

He has an old iPhone 6 that is still in perfect working order, and I suggested he just use that as his cycling computer/gps. but the question of HR monitoring came up. The current garmin strap he has is an ANT+ type, so guessing this wont work with iPhone, but will any bluetooth strap work with an iPhone, or do you need a specific iPhone compatible strap?

We are riding together in the morning, I will chat to him and then get back to you.

An older H7 will also work.  I have one that I don't use and is prepared to sell, PM me if he is interested.

The other question then is, what mounts work best?

Im considering donating my old otterbox cover, and just epoxying an old headlight mount to the otterbox.

You get a Topeak ridecase for iphone.  I have one for an iphone 7+ (way to big for a 6), but he can use the topcap mount.

If he want the H7, he can have this mount for free, then just need to search for a compatible casing for the iphone 6.

I have a Garmin 310XT that has served me well.

The strap was removed and currently has a stem mount adaptor in the place of the strap. Let me know if this is of interest to your friend, then we can talk price. He then can keep the Garmin Ant+ HR strap.

Nothing works with Strava anymore, remember they took Bluetooth support out because that goes counter to stravabook

Damn!  You are correct, I don't see bluetooth anywhere in Strava.  I didn't know because I haven't used Strava in a long time.  My Polar account is linked to Strava so my sessions get uploaded auto.

I use a polar h10 on a 6 with the polar bear app. Then use the polar flow app to sync with discovery if thats what you want too.

Yes me also but with a iphone XR, it work 100%.

wow, some of those mounts are expensive. i would think for most people it would be better to look for a second hand garmin, much like frosty punted
