Isn't that the truth! When we were kids, we had DNP-GX, Tourney, Exage, Suntour, Modolo and Gipiemme and Sachs Huret leftovers from the 70s, and if you were really, really lucky, Shimano 105.

Dura Ace was 'unobtanium' for the most part; I remember a chap named Steve McMaster who had a red Cannondale with Dura Ace 7400...that alone made him a hero in my 16-year old eyes...

Probably a sign of our increased prosperity that all and sundry are rocking the latest top end gear and changing it every year. What a time to be alive.

I bought a bike in 86 from Willie Engelbrecht. A Le Turbo with Superbe Pro and Ofmega crankset. Those friction changes were smooth as butter. The tubby bag had R20 in it.Taxi money he said.

Finally my frame restored and groupset has been finished and partialy gold plated. It was very challenging as shimano consist of tiny multiple pieces it not so easy as campagnolo to take out and put it back together. After lot of hours I have put it to its original state fully functioning. At least the result justifies my worka9c6920dcff87c6c64757eee07ea494b.jpgd4d4977f0d8fd6fd99807b0ff6bd1265.jpgf3fcfebbab5102793b4ee99018b9d32a.jpg86fc5320e248a64334f88569ede3e9f4.jpgba4ef71b9c7aea94410a986b0369d42f.jpgfce60873ed934d77cbcd847a5e329be3.jpgaee9f8738cd77d38e085988325c161d2.jpgbdea6ea9d81daa975465eed17a620eef.jpgdcd471c8f4acc4e125aa4089c9320335.jpg

Stunning! The calipers and cranks aren't 7400, but we'll let that slide ;-)

Thank you but I am going to correct you there the callipers are the DA 7403 and the crankset is the DA 7410.211d0cb4b87bad81f33227092a88c313.jpg1d67fa09fff0caafe269fc0583e79829.jpg

Very impressive. A bit too much Bling, even for my taste but I can see why it's so appealing.

What I can say I am a Bling guy, but I didn't went for full Bling only partial and functioning [emoji6] Edited by mkentik

Please tell us about the preparation and coating.

Primar coat ?

Final clear coat to protect it ?

I cannot awnser to your question because its being done by a professional, the little things that I know is that he has removed the previous gold plating, or anodization, buffed it and gold plated as I believe then protected by clear lacquer.
