Simo95 Posted February 15, 2021 Share Hi there. We are doing market research for our NEW CYCLING APPAREL BRAND called "Salt Move". We will be making cycling couture for Men and Women and would like some feedback on what you guys prefer to wear. Please see the Monkey Survey link below with only 4 multiple choice questions. https://www.surveymonkey.com/r/HB2ZR35 Your feedback is much appreciated! Shebeen Posted February 15, 2021 Share my feedback...market is already overtraded, You will need to do something different, offer something special, or just race to the bottom. this is just right next to your post is this latest to join the fray.https://community.bikehub.co.za/features/_/news/honey-custom-creations-born-out-of-lockdown-r8230?source=sidebar so ja, best of luck, I wouldn't commit too much money until you've done the research properly. ChrisF Posted February 15, 2021 Share Tough times to try this .... Many of the known brands had to downsize their operations What would get our business ? - we only buy if we can test fit ... - we often buy matching kits ... which very few make for parents and kids ... Jewbacca Posted February 15, 2021 Share Cycling couture. So made in house to measure? Will you be branding tech fabric and joining Ciovita/Enjoy/Vye etc, go a bit more into the Rapha market or will you be making rad out the box 'couture' cycling clothes like Kitsbow https://www.kitsbow.com/collections/mens-collection or Ripton and Co with their Cycle Dungarees and cut off denim shorts with Chamois?https://riptonco.com/collections/frontpage/products/mens-drift-overalls I am interested. As an ex fashion industry person with a fashion design diploma, when people throw 'couture' at me in their marketing blurb I immediately wonder how that translates to the real world these days. I sincerely hope you aren't just going to make 'funky prints' and sublimations and try to pass that off under a 'couture' guise. That would really hurt my feelings. I hope it's something Johnny Wheeler aka Poppi/Benedict/Ronnie would wear..... But then unfortunately the market is so small making money will be an issue. IMHO doing anything in the fashion industry sucks. Wayne pudding Mol, bleedToWin and Danger Dassie
Hairy Posted February 15, 2021 Share Salt Move sounds like you have worn the kit on a long hot ride and the kit is covered in salts? Mopkop and Headshot
Grease_Monkey Posted February 15, 2021 Share Q3... we live in SA, no need for anything but full summer kit year round. For me anyway - I didn't see that option. TBH, I just want some plain black shorts with a pocket to go over my bib, and any well ventilated exercise t shirt (apparently inpossible to find in any cycling brand, so I just buy UnderArmour vanish shirts). Oh, and I sweat in it, so if it's expensive I'm not interested. I have yet to find any exercise shirt I don't have to throw out after a season of use. Zebra Posted February 15, 2021 Share If it were me, I reckon design ‘The One’ item that you REALLY put a lot of research/design and BREATHABILITY into it, under-branded, so attractive, discreet logo that is aspirational... Think ‘whisper’, and not S-H-O-U-T-! Name is interesting, not sure, but then I called my company Flying Brick. - weird, right so maybe the name will work with time! Size-breaks are less/fewer in cycling than motorcycling, where we run 16 sizes, sometimes with 2 leg lengths, so there is THAT in your favour! Caps and Beanies are a dime a dozen, and I think that Ciovita et al are well down the road, ahead of you, so if it were me, build the ONE understated technical cycling top that people HAVE to have, THEN, 12-24 months, build on your successes, and add to the range piecemeal... My 5c, I liked the 4 question survey - sharp!Chris Simo95
Wayne pudding Mol Posted February 16, 2021 Share To the naysayers, what new business isn’t tough? I say good luck - get your sizing right for SA , comfort and value. I’ll pay whatever as long as it’s value I love Rapha but it’s insanely expensive especially when you add duties Like grease monkey, the lack of comfortable over bib shorts is bewildering - an adjustable waistband would be nice Good luck Ps I’m a large should you need market research (oh hang on it’s cycling, I’m an XL) Danger Dassie, Hairy, Simo95 and 1 other

I have moved on to a ripstop cargo hiking pants for these days.I have a few branded goods, but like my more discreet labelled stuff these days. Not sure if I want to cut them up, kinda like the tears and holes in them. Headshot
