Hi there. We are planning a ride at Banhoek trails over the weekend, weather dependent. Having never ridden there, what do you guys suggest we do and where do we start.

Don’t mind climbing, Bottelary is my home trails. And we are looking for at least 40/45km.

TIA

Go park at Old Bethlehem and take it from there. Turn off into Kylemore and keep left.... you will eventually see the gate and parking lot on your left. To do 40km plus you will probably have to do a few loops and then keep going towards Boschendal.... alternatively park in Stellenbosch and start by cycling up Botmaskop... do Sky Traverse.... into Banhoek through the farms.... up Niknaks and on and on. Park at the top of Unie Road and follow the signs taking you up to the Corkscrew. Enjoy!

a nice one is to stop at Tokara, go across and go over bothmaskop corkscrew and traverse ,then work your way to Bethlehem sky traverse. lots of very good bits in between. have a look on trailforks. you can plot a ride there and even  load it onto a garmin device. you wil definitely enjoy it!

as mentioned, to do 40km you will need to do a few laps, but because its so much fun, that wont be a problem.

I would suggest going up the Bethlehem ascent , drop in to Klipwerf downhill line, then run all the way down  with " Cobra" to the fence and then climb back up again....Do the Sky traverse over to Duiwelskloof...turn left at the end of the traverse and follow the Dig Bos connector trail back.....when you reach the Oak trees, follow the jeep track to Elevator Climb and go up to the Start of afterburner.

Trail signs are not that great yet, however you will find plenty riders there over the weekend to help show you the way.

Explore and have fun!  It could be that the trail is closed due to the heavy rains...

Once you ride Klipwerf, Cobra and Afterburner your desire for distance will fly out the window at a rapid pace. Banhoek is not about distance. Its about quality and TONS of fun.

There is enough to keep you wanting more without giving a toot about how far you ride. Last year I clocked in the region of 4000km's. This year I am slightly over 600km to date. And not for a lack of riding. I have decide to forego distance and rather focus on how much fun I can have while riding. Last weekend Saturday I was in the saddle for 2.5 hours. I covered 10km's in that time...But I had so much fun it's unbelievable. All thanks to sessioning the Leatt Skills Park at Hoogekraal.

2021 is all about quality over quantity for me. And its paying off handsomely. My skills are better than they've ever been and overall I'm more relaxed.

Banhoek lends itself to this kind of riding. You are in for a ride you won't soon forget.
