Iā€™m agreed with Theo on the choices, bear in mind that these cassettes and chains on the Merida and Scott bikes will need replacing.

Ā

I havenā€™t, until seeing your thread, considered selling this beloved 2012 large Cannondale Trail SL2 29er that in September this year was fitted with new chainrings, new bottom bracket, newer less worn cranks, new chain, new cassette, new brake pads front and rear (and bled front and rear). Ā Worn original saddle was replaced with a black 2020 Bontrager saddle. Ā Rockshox Recon 100mm air fork serviced by RBC. Ā Oh, and a new Deore XT rear derailleur in January 2021 to replace the finicky SRAM one (edit: and both shifters). Ā All thatā€™s a lot! Ā Tires will need replacing in a month or two.

The Shimano brakes on those two bikes are better quality than the Avid brakes on the Cannondale. Ā The Avid brakes have had no issues and as previously stated front and rear brakes were both bled when new pads were fitted in September. All that in preparation for my sonā€™s December visit but thatā€™s not happening any longer.

A few pics from before all those new components were fitted (will take pics of new components when I get my phone back):

Ā

Itā€™s ready to roll and is great on the type of trails that you mentioned. Ā R10 200 fits between the pricing for those other two similar vintage bikes with worn components, if youā€™re interested.

Howzit Justinafrika, your bike looks really nice, thank you for considering. Can you tell me the inches on the large frame? My cell is 0ļøāƒ£8ļøāƒ£3ļøāƒ£3ļøāƒ£8ļøāƒ£1ļøāƒ£9ļøāƒ£1ļøāƒ£0ļøāƒ£3ļøāƒ£Ā when you want to share more pics. Cheers

The size will be fine. You are on the border so should be fine. I am 1.76 and have a large and a medium. On straight, flat track I prefer the large but for everything else I prefer the medium.Ā

Will take photos of the new components on the bike tomorrow and WhatsApp them to you. Ā Where are you? Ā Itā€™s available for viewing in Walmer, PE or if you choose it Iā€™ll get my local bike shop down the road to box it before couriering to you (couriers at your expense, Courier Guy is quick and was about R965 earlier this year). Ā Will get those pics to you.

Also 1,76.

Ā

My Scott Spark was a L ... PERFECT fit !!

Ā

Ā

My Giant is a M ... their L is too large for me.

Ā

Same with Darrvin.Ā  Test rode both the M and the L .... bought the M

Ā

Point being, sizes differ between brands.

Ā

Ā

At 1,78 a L should be a safe bet .... but a test ride is the only way to know.

Yes I agree, some of the L size frames feel too big, perhaps the geometry as well.
