I was cycling yesterday and a guy stopped me to help him with his bike. He is a security guard at Somerset hospital in Green Point and rides there from Fishoek every day!!!!!!

It is a titan MTB with 8 speed something. I took the bike home and indexed the gears, tightened headstock, adjusted brakes etc but the chainrings are buggered and it slips over the teeth. I did what I could and he was very happy but the bike is generally a disaster. I wouldn't mind sourcing a crankset or chain rings but I have no idea what they are.

Titan's own inhouse brand (TRC), so you wont find rings to replace that.

Also looks like a M12 bolt is through the crank shaft, so a new crank may be in order.
3x8 may be hard to find...

It doesn't have to be a 3x crank, a 2x would be fine. Are they available? The front derailleur is in bad shape and thesmallestvring is in the worst shape so I managed to get it to shift on the two outer rings only.

I've got a 34.9 clamp, 3x front deraileur you can have. And if you find a crank/BB I can probably help with chainrings.

Thanks, that's very kind. This guy is constantly sending me voice notes expressing his gratitude. He says the bike drives like a car now!

The truth is the bike is pretty FUBAR all over. I'm going to investigate finding him a whole bike because putting a crank on this may be throwing good money at a big mess.

Thanks very much, appreciated. I'm going to get a new bike. His wheels are toast, brakes are toast, both derailleurs are hanging on for dear life.

Makro had a Raleigh Nexus 29er for R1700 . Are they complete rubbish for that money?

I have more than enough parts to slap something together for him. I just need to know what size he rides 👍

Really? That would be amazing. Lete know how I can help. He rides a medium sized bike.

I think anyone that rides 2 hours to work in the winter deserves to be given a chance.
