Hi, sorry I know the topic probably comes up a lot but for someone new to mountain biking (92kg, 1.86m, male), would it be worth my while trying to buy a new bike with a budget of R8k considering I still need to buy most of the gear also? If not, how do I know that the 2nd hand bikes I am looking at are a good deal and that the bike is not damaged? I know very little about the specs, but I know that I will probably be looking at a Large (probably XL) frame hardtail bike. Thanks guys and girls.

At a budget of R8k definetely go second hand. You not gonna find anything great new with that budget unfortunately. Go second hand.

Second hand all the way.

Get an opinion from a bike shop as to the frame size for your length.

Also don't worry to much about 26" vs 27,5" vs 29" wheels. There are some great deals to be had on second hand 26" bikes.
