Maybe  this should be a wanted ad, but asking for a friend, she's been for a bike fit but still not winning. It's a new for her bike, and she's experiencing neck/shoulder being, her reach seems a tad too stretched out so I've suggested slightly narrower bars and maybe something with back sweep. Not a noob she's been riding about 10yrs.

What's the chances someone has something lying around in that box if things that they'd be willing to let her try out different options?

Joburg based.

Cheers.

Shorter and higher stem will do the job.

More back sweep will be less effective and a narrower bar is definitely not the best idea.

Neck and shoulder pain suggests the bike is too low in front and maybe not too long.

I have a Jones Bar that is not in use that she is welcome to try out if she is prepared to try something very different.

Her stem is already quite short but yeah maybe she can try Stack it up too. Maybe go to a specialist bike fit place instead of LBS.

Is there specific limitations on lefty? Bike dude told her can't raise the stem.  Can't spacers be added?

All bikes will have limitations. You can't add spacers because the steerer tube of the fork will be too short.

Changing the stem will be the only option if it already has all the spacers underneath it.

Riser bars and/or a steerer tube extender may be a solution to consider.

Rapidé’s versions conveniently also offer 9° backsweep.

Sq labs makes bars up to 16* backsweep snd are relatively easy to get hold of.

more rise, more backsweep, shorter stem, shorter bars, push saddle forward a few mm, all things to get around a bike with too much reach (within reason) Hell even a bigger front tyre (relative to rear) will give you a few mm by increasing stack.

Why's that? I get that the 90's are gone as are the narrow bars, but I get there's an optimum width that's a bit fuzzy and in that fuzziness isn't there scope for getting a rider into a better position?

I'm curious and eager to learn
