I did about 60km the route last Saturday on an informal route recce - pretty much 99% of it was gravel bike heaven, only a few short rutted sections. The start is going to be a slightly dodgy, a farm road with random potholes so in a bunch there can be nasty surprises but once you get to the district roads the mtb's are going to eat gravel bike dust.

Also it seems no big climbs, so if the wind plays along I would say go for the longer distance, you might very well be able to wing it even if you are not really fit enough.

What parts did you ride?

Those roads are maintained well. its once you venture out to Piketberg and Halfmanshoff that the funn starts. will make trip that way this afternoon and see if I can take a photo of the road surface

don't drop the keys in the thick sand!!

The missus got "lost" a few weeks before our wedding (she forgot 4 lefts and you are back where you started). took out het phone to navigate even though she has the route on her garmin, and ended up going into a sandy patch at a good speed. have not received our wedding photos but I presume the scars on the arms will take quite the photoshop skills...

Entries sold out yesterday - pretty impressive for a brand new event!

said 700 pax over the three courses. Not bad, but surely they could handle more. wonder what the limit is for, rental toilets?
