I'm looking to respray my gravel bike. Pretty simple, no airbrushing or art needed.

Anyone have a recommendation in the Western Cape?

Can be bicycle specific, or a automotive/motorbike refurbisher that has done bicycles?

Nicola logisticlly ....

CBR if you are in Durbanville, Northern Suburbs.  Such a nice seamless excercise dealing with them.

By all accounts similar with Jared if you are that side of the boerewors curtain

Pleaae keep us informed with price wise.

Asked to respray y gravel bike at BMC and eventually bought a new carbon frame as opposed to respraying my old frame.... price for the paint job was nearly double of what i had in mind

This is the pricing I’ve gotten for a more complex design with multiple colours.

Here is a quick question. What not go for a chemical stripping of the frame for about R400 and then got it powder coated? I've been quoted a single colour or clear coat of a Dual sus frame for R600 - R800. Powder coating is supposed to be tougher than standard paint isn't it?

so strip and clearcoat for R1k. I'm interested to have that for my carbon hardtail, but sounds like a penny wise, pound foolish option.

That is what I was quoted a few weeks back. Derustit.co.za said r450 for the stripping and then I contacted a couple of Powder Coating places in CT and the quotes for a single colour gloss (or matt) or a clear coat over raw with the chemical prep to stop oxidisation was between R600 and R800 depending on frame weight. Apparently the industry works on weight for quotes. Then I guess get some decals made up and that should be about it. I'm wondering if I'm missing something on the paint vs powder coating argument but I can't find much about the negatives.

seems a little bit "industrial" for me.

There's a reason no one uses car spraying companies for their bikes. this looks even further down that path!

For sure. industrial is a good word. I've seen some stuff that has looked very much like thick gloop covered over a frame but I've also seen a friends bike and it looked incredible. I've heard that the prep and getting a good quality company is the key. I'm thinking about it for one of mine but need to go down and see some samples. You can get some pretty crazy finishes if that's your kind of thing!

As someone who paints his own bikes I can tell you that the cost in spraying a carbon frame comes in the preparation time of the frame. Where you can chemically dip or bead blast a steel or alu frame, you can't do that with carbon. You can possibly blast it with nut shell if you have someone that can do that carefully but 9 times out of 10 the only way to strip it is with sandpaper. That alone is 6-8hr job so there goes R2K out the window... before you even get to Primer. Painting is a seriously labour intensive job.
