Yeah, I used to order off AliExpress a lot in the past but the shipping has gotten out of control. Then when your package FINALLY arrives in SA uncle SARS will be waiting for you at collection.

They have some weird way of calculating taxes, you never really know how much you're going to pay until you get there, so you cant really budget accurately.

The last 3 times I've ordered different things of Ali express, I've got an unreasonable tax bill, with no breakdown or explaining, one was 95% of the product cost

Hopefully when Ali sort out their Durban distribution centre (meeting just happened) it will sort out the shipping and tax irregularities

I have purchased a phone mount, many cycling shirts, torque wrench and a few other bits. Cycling shirts are excellent quality, torque wrench seems fine but i need to use it more. Phone mount was terrible, breaking off and damaging my phone 5 minutes in the ride. Luckily it was a spare phone. Delivery of items are quick and tax is reasonable. Worth it.

Anyone have experience with handlebar tape from Temu, saw some “Supacuz” stuff that I might try out.

I got some a while back, I'm pretty sure it was made in the same factory. Was identical from the  packaging to the actual product. Haven't seen it on again - share the link please

NEVER BUY A HELMET from china

I saw a YouTube video of a guy stamping on different helmets and the one from china exploded easily

Fast forward to 12 mins

Well, yes and no. Never buy a counterfeit helmet. But most helmets are made in China and if it’s got a CE/other certification, it can be relied on. Not all Temu helmets have certifications but some do.

For fun, go and look at the Virginia Tech ratings. More expensive doesn’t equal safer in most cases.

My wife and I have ordered from Temu for more then 10 month aprox 1-2k orders, various household, clothing, shoes, bike related, fitness, hiking. some cheaper options and items others to the value of 1k… we have been very happy with both quality and deliver times. Many of the items are identical to high street and brand names. However it takes time to go through items check materials. Model numbers match perfectly, was happy with my brake hoods for my Ultegra levels 6000 model. Ordered carbon handle bars for my Trek MTB… took them to Trek to get fitted… they couldn’t tell the difference only that they were blank and have used them for a few month with no issues. Next plan is to build an entire road bike from Temu, that’s the faith I have in what the quality… but it takes paying close attention to model names and item details, take your time when shopping and don’t rush. If the items weren't right we did check the details properly. Simply returned them fit a refund and carried on shopping…

How does the returns work on stuff like shoes. I'm worried if they don't fit. Do they cover return shipping?

Yep agree with that ratings, but the risk here is huge

I think a temu helmet would be a gamble, I would rather stick to brands I know from reputable shops locally. The risk is too high in my personal opinion.

For other stuff it's fine, but a helmet is a life saving device, and I would not roll the dice on that.

I'm in the fence about carbon bars too, I only stick them on the bikes for the kids as I know they won't be hitting them hard..... Dental bill is not worth the weight saving.

The best way is to measure your foot and order the shoes according to your foot length I ordered a pair of mtb and a pair of road shoes and they fit 100%

Hopefully I did not emotionally scar to many people with it.

If you, like me, are the slowpoke at the back of the group, you do not have anything to worry about.🤭

My main reason for not buying a Chinese helmet (with ratings/certification) is that some helmets just feel ick on my head. So I need to fit them first.

But realistically locally available great Mips helmets can be had for less than R1500, so is it really worth the potential ballache buying a Chinese helmet that may not fit right anyway?

I have the Scott Argo Plus (Mips), R1300 thereabouts available from just about any bike shop. So light I forgot it was on my head not too long ago and looked for it in my house for half an hour. Super comfy, no ick, and has a super VT rating.
