Cutting a carbon seatpost - dos and don'ts?

Recommended Posts

I need to shorten a carbon seatpost to accommodate a shorter rider - what are the best tools to use for this?  Can I use a haksaw?  Any advice welcome!

32tpi hacksaw blade minimum or use a dremel with a diamond coated cutting disc at high speed. Wrapped insulation or masking tape over the area and cut on and through the tape. I prefer the dremel as it cuts cleaner and seals the cut.
if going the hacksaw route make sure the blade is mounted with teeth facing forward and account for the stagger of the teeth when measuring your cut.

as stated, wear a breather or face mask, protect your eyes, ears from carbon dust and a hat also helps to stop carbon dust running into your eyes later.

Hacksaw, masking tape, ruler (measure twice), send it. 🪚

You can bant it away from what I hear...

Personally found a Sawzall was a win for this job
