Titan Racing vs Giant/Trek/Specialized

Recommended Posts

Hi everyone,

I am looking at buying my first dual suspension mtb bike.

I would like to know your advice, should I buy a brand new Titan Racing Dash for example:

29er, dual suspension, dropper, rockshox etc

OR should I buy a second hand bike like a Trek superfly, Giant stance or specialized stumpjumper.

My budget is around 30-35k…

Please let me know your thoughts.

Thank you.

The Trek superfly is an older bike I think it was discontinued in 2015/16 it's not a bad bike but it should be well under your budget.

The Stumpy could be fun what year model are you looking at?

The new titan looks like a fun bike a little to much travel for my liking but hey I ride a HT What would I know 🤣

The Giant stance is good bang for buck and giant's in house parts are decent quality.

In your budget I would look in the classifieds as there's been a couple of nice bikes in your budget.

Hi, thanks so much!

My main question is, is Titan Racing good as I am not that familiar with it and would you suggest buying a brand new titan over a second hand Giant/Specialised for the same price?

Thank you!

Yes, buy a new Titan Racing over a 2nd hand whatever else. You'll have the joy of a brand new bike, with brand new parts that comes with great backup and warranty.

The new TR's are all great bikes. Myles at bikenetwork.co.za did a proper review of the 2 Skyrim models, take a look:

Definitely if you are looking at the same spec at the same price new would definitely be the way to go.

Titan has a great warranty even buying second hand they still retain their warranty (the only brand I know of who offers this) that is definitely some confidence in their products. They are also very active here on the hub which is always great to see 👌🏻

Long story short I don't think you can go wrong with Titan.

@PhilipV are the titans components being Rockshox etc better or not?

The trance has better suspension in front. Rear is comparable. Marzochi z2 is in a different class to the rockshox silver. And anyone who thinks SRAM SX is better than the 12spd of Shimano deore needs to get their head read.
Trance has a carbon frame, compared to the Ali Skyrim, and all that is just on paper. Having ridden a trance, I reckon it hits the sweet spot for SA riding.

im saying this as someone who is riding a Scott Genius at the moment. But I’d probably choose that Trance now if I was in the market.

To find a review on a superfly you would need to search the archives of the internet. 🤣

Bought with my head(wallet) and bought a Titan 2 years go. Never missed a beat since then.

At that stage it was value for money the best bike I could get, I came from a lower spec name brand bike and I can say I honestly would buy another Titan without even thinking.
