It’s a fairly stiff NW blowing which will make the section from franshoek to Riebeeck kasteel a must stay in bunch affair

but should help for the road back from Riebeek - unless its heavy crosswinds we have to deal with

This is a tapering ride for me so my plan is to get dropped and ride solo or in a small group off the back of D batch (my seeding seems to have slipped quite a bit) ---

One does not simply ride 172kms to taper 🤣 I'll be peaking! 😅

I've been doing nothing but endurance training for months and months for the terrifying Munga so I'm definitely not peaking - I very much doubt I have the 1 and 2 and 5 minute power to cope with a surging bunch.

And I'm scared of the risk of falling in a big bunch of mad mamils so definitely looking for a few agter osse to keep me company off the back

Sit in front and nullify the surges with that newfound all-day power 💪

Ha ha ... I don't see even my colleagues in my demoted D batch tolerating 2 watts per kg for 8 hours!!

From past experience on the One Tonner that outside of the climbs the bunches behind A are fairly "conservative", think most peeps respect the 160km distance enough to not want to burn unnecessary matches chasing lost causes. Usually most end up latching onto DC teams doing team training pulling massive groups of other riders hanging at the back.

For R690 I thought they might include a small goodie bag with maybe a water bottle. Clearly bike racing isn't the same as running races. At the recent CT marathon I think the goodie bag was worth more than the entry.

Someone needs to pay for all the "free stuff" - if its not you its the organiser or in CT Marathon's case the big headline sponsor.

Also if you enter cycling funrides for nice goodie bags prepare yourself for many years of disappointments (or consider entering expensive stage races where you might get nice goodie bags)

21000 runners vs maybe 500 riders....
