Gooday All

Is there anyway of checking the size of my supplied ebike motor?

I am under the suspicion I have perhaps been undersupplied motor wise but do not know how to check what the wattage rating is.

Appreciate any help?

Cops in Netherlands have a dyno to test the power at the wheel ....

 

Doubt anything like that, bike size, is available locally.

 

 

Real option .... check the settings via the app ....

Thinking out loud:
Power meter pedals/power meter crank = your output

Stick it on a smart trainer  = total output

Difference = Motor output (more or less)

 

Of course, that requires access to power meters and a smart trainer.

I don't think that will be accurate enough. Also, if something is rated at 500w,  that would be at best, under ideal circumstances, then there's frictional losses everywhere. Then, how accurate is a powermeter actually? Just like a dyno, you can't compare one dyno with another, it's more for before and after. True test night be to check how much current the motor pulls and compare that to others. If OP suspects the wrong motor was installed, removing and checking code or serial no will decide that one.

And to make things more interesting ....

 

Giant's settings works on user input multiplied by a factor, to a max of 250W.

 

Specialized apparently works on a % assist at the various settings ....

 

 

You would need to understand the operating system, the settings for the assist, before you know when the motor is supposed to give max assist.

 

But wait, theres more .... with Giant each assist level also determines how fast the power kicks in .... so even though you access to 250W, it ramps up slower in the lower assist levels, on boost it KICKS IN !!

 

 

 

After a service my Giant felt different .... they upgraded the software, which reset the assist levels.  Once I realised what happened I changed it back via the app

Yikes....... if I owned an e-bike I'd have it derestricted and boosting to the max! 😁

The serial number shows a different number to what it should be.  Manufacturers confirm this (it was them who told  me)  and the number was for a smaller motor than what I purchased.

Local supplier says the factory overseas cocked up  so they changed the casing locally.

Don't want to mention the bike shop because they have my motor, loom and display including my deposit on repair.  Very expensive repair so far.

Still no communication from the bike shop.  Took three days to uplift the motor from Postnet.

Awaiting report back  but it would seem they have nothin g to say?  Avoiding the issue I think as they charged for 500W and sent 350W
