Hi Everyone

About to turn 40,over weight, trying to find something exciting to do than sitting on my couch or attending my kids school events. I have obviously tried other things but I keep going back to "cycling" whenever I go to the gym.

I have now decided to start proper cycling but I was shocked to learn that Bicycles are not as cheap as I thought🙃. I almost bought one from Makro u till I read some helpful comments here.

I wanted to check if anyone has an MTB bike they want to sell that is still in "good" condition. My budget is about R3000 - R5000. I have now learnt that proper second hand bikes cost more but maybe someone has something to offer.

Please comment or message me if you have something like that. I'm determined to use this to live a healthy life style before going to Ozimpic way🙃

Here is some suggestions. depends where you live, Give your height to estimate a bike size for you

Just some suggestions, look for a bike with hydraulic brakes and a air fork. Any Shimano deore gears makes life a lot easier. You can convert the tyres to tubeless yourself as I did with YouTube.

@RobertWhitehead is the go to person for this.

Your height, i.e. frame size ?

Wheel preferance ?  26" offers significantly better value for money

At that price it will be a hart tail.

Has Robert not got back to you yet.? Just wait if he hasn’t.. I would never buy a bike just looking at one picture, can’t see groupset, wear and tear etc.. can’t tell you if it’s a good buy or not..

promise you, don’t rush this.. it’ll end up costing you more..

Okay, good start.

At 1,75m I know that Medium in most brands will work for you.  Though you are almost on the cusp between M and Large.  Starting out the more upright position and general feel of the Medium will provide confidence to you.

YES, a Medium in a 26" and a Medium in a 29" is close enough for your purposes.  With the 26" just a lot cheaper, or rather much better value for money,

Agree on previous posts, aim for:

- airshock, though at this price a decent damper shock will be good enough

- 1x11 (one gear in the front and 11 at the back) offers excellent value for money !!  and very reliable and cost effective parts.  Even a 1x10 might serve you very well

- speak to Robert about what brake options he has ....

O-yes, Robert is on your side of the river ....
