A couple of questions: has anyone actually done any of Taun's events? There seems to be many advertised last couple years , Cederberg and Overberg, all on Western Cape Mountain bike FB.

I have posted on that group as a warning to others and my posts have been removed and today not accepted at all. Is it run by Taun fans or family I'm wondering? If they know these events never happen surely it is good to take them off the site? Or did some of the events actually take place?

I can't imagine any any ever have. But I never signed up for any. Just need to hit the platforms he was active on and see what comes back. If I can help I will. But not sure how.

There don't seem to be a link with the Western Cape MTB group and Taun.

What probably happened is that they received some threats after the post, and decided to remove it.

Also don't think they have the time to investigate each and every event they advertise....after all, what normal people would suspect that events were fake? Their service is to inform all us non-suspecting individuals of upcoming events out there...not investigate them...

@Belinda Roxburgh have you spoken to Mike Bolhuis by any chance?

I wouldn't touch Bolhuis with a barge pole after his alleged involvement with Louis Liebenberg. The type of money Liebenberg allegedly defrauded makes Brewster look like a kindergarten bully in Pollsmoor

Well, if he is responsible for bringing this character to justice, i tip my cap to him.

HI @Belinda Roxburgh

I actually did one. Which probably makes me one of the luckiest people ever. I booked the Hessequa something or the other trip for me and my wife (without doing my die diligence duh).  This was from Stilbaai to Stanford approx. Feb 2021. There were many redlights going off long before the trip happened. Lack of itineraries, I wanted details like exactly where we going to sleep etc, The people who where suppose to pick us up was about 3 hrs late on the day, no proper carrier for a dual sus on their vehicle etc etc etc.

Although the trip was enjoyable and I attribute this mostly due the group of 6 cyclists that was "bonded" together here, it did feel like a proper "we are winging this" expedition.

I am happy for you to DM me if you want any more info, I just cant be bothered to give Taun any more attention.

Thanks

Paul

Ps there's actually still a write up about this trip on the africranks webpage.

A bikehubber called @Mailman7412 apparently did a trip with him. See this comment:
