You BUY your seeding if you are Vets.

If you say so ;)

Yet, I have a vets licence and I race CTCT in $ every year, and finish in the first half of the group.

The guy who won the 40+ group this year would've 100% been in the top 20 of the $ bunch at CTCT, actually, he finished in the top 10 at this weekends gravel champs. Absolute beast.

Also, there are other races than CTCT, and lots of the top 30+ / 40+ are among the strongest guys when there's no age groups in the races, most of the time we're all just cat 1 or group A or whatever you call it.

If you really are strong and you're not a vet, and you race (which I'd assume you do if you're a "racing snake"), then you should be in the $ group as it's not that hard to get the seeding. For me the guys in 1A are the relatively strong okes that parade in PNS kits on the seaboard, but not "racing snakes".

Interesting, I know someone with a vets racing license who wanted to race in $ who was specifically told by the organisers that because he has got a race licence for his age cat and not for elites he is not allowed to start in $ (basically was told next year get an elite license if you want to race in $ because you are also not allowed to change mid-season)

As usual not very consistent when it comes to applying the rules

Commercial aspects always trump the rules.filing the batches is the prime objective it would appear

So yes, normaly you race per your licence, but CTCT is not age cat, the $ group is not named Elite (it's not limited to the 18-29 age groups, it's in fact elites + subvets), even the @ group has some elite (age cat) in it, those who's seeding wasn't good enough for $.

Anyways, so normally if you're 40+ you can't race in the $ group, unless you have an elite licence. But a rider on a subvets licence can very well race in the $ group if his seeding is right.

There are exceptions where some 40+ are allowed in the $ group, and I think it comes down to being invited as part of an elite team. Guys like Theuns VDBank, Dutoit or our Jaco Roets were in the $ bunch this year with us. I very much hope so I'll be able to do the same next year when I turn 40... or maybe I will take on an elite licence ;) so that I don't buy my seeding in the old toppies group

The process is as follows:
1. You buy a CSA Membership. For this you first need to belong to a club, because the club admin must approve you CSA membership application
2. If you want to buy a domestic racing license, you first need to have completed done point 1.
3. If you want/need a UCI number to race internationally, you first need a domestic racing license (point 2)

Note: Not sure if  there are 'dummy clubs' to use to bypass requirements for point 1

If you buy an annual csa non racing membership you still need to be part of a club.

You sure? I know a few people who are not members of a club but buy a CSA member to avoid paying day license fees…

unless they’re members of a virtual club somewhere

I renewed my CSA license earlier this year.

I had to complete a box for which club I belong to..... who knows if they actually follow up on that box, or just your EFT ....

Good to know. I’ve always checked that box because I’ve been a member of a club for as long as I’ve been cycling (almost)

I just logged into the new portal too. There’s a lot of virtual clubs there. Someone’s making good pocket money

Yes - someone from the club needs to verify that you are a member of the club when you apply. And yes, I am sure there are virtual clubs out there that helps you to bypass the requirement to join an actual club.

I have a non racing license and i needed approval from someone at the club before they accepted my membership.
