Hi Hubland,

Yes, I wasn't careful I know. The screw is not tightening nicely, but the other one still is and it's keeping the caliper in place.

What can I do to fix it?

The fork is a 13-year-old RockShox Revelation.

Thank you in advance.

One could possibly tap the existing hole with one size up. In other words, if it's an M6 bolt, get an M7 tap and carefully tap the hole.

I would rather go the insert route.  A bigger bolt will influence the calliper adjustment.

The best route will be as suggested - to have someone insert a helicoil for you.  But if the thread is not totally stripped what you could do is to purchase an M6 x 20 Grub screw and then an M6 Nylock nut.

Screw the grubscrew into the fork with some loctite studlock 270 and then use the Nylock nut on the grubscrew as the retainer for the brake caliper.

I would try to re tap the thread with the correct tap.  Make sure that the hole is cleaned out well and try a new bolt.

If that doesn't work you will have to fit a thread repair insert.  For a one off probably best to get someone with a kit to fit it for you.

Take it to Dave and your problem will be solved

Thanks for the advice. I moved to Montagu almost a year ago, so I'll try van Tonder cycles in Robertson and see if they can help. Thank you all.

If the bike shop can't do it, find an engineering works, good mechanics shop or often there is someone who offers a mobile service for inserts and helicoils. In the city there are loads of guys doing a mobile thread repair service.
