Groups might help but then they turn into idiots and actually cause more mayhem. The other night Owen Hannie said on SC that if you ride in a group you must ride more then two abreast. Now all the idiots do it on a single lane.

True, if you have a bunch of idiots riding together they are likely to cause an accident....just after I started cycling, on a few occasions I joined a group for an early morning ride, but these morons would simply not stop at traffic lights/stop streets, which works fine if there is no traffic...one morning they jumped a traffic light as usual and half the group nearly got taken out by a delivery vehicle.  Then these morons swore at the driver!

But the point about being safer in a group w.r.t visibility etc is a valid one.

Why doesn't Cycling South Africa do something like a cycling awareness campaign?

It could be a very good opportunity for CSA to show that they do actually care about cycling.

The motorcycling community have their "Think Bike" programme which I'm sure does some good.

They did. It was called "Cycle Safe". It lasted just as long as what the stickers did.

a guy was knocked down right in front of me this morning doing the Engen Classic.

head-on collision with an Audi.  the poor guy flew right over the car.

the guy is OK,  but the bike was in 3 pieces.

this was 100% our fault - going the wrong way around a traffic circle as we do every single morning!

one might think that the pack learnt something from this,  but 20 minutes later it was more of the same!

- still a hell of a ride though!!!!
