In the second scroll of Wen the Eternally Surprised a story is written concerning one day

when the apprentice Clodpool, in a rebellious mood, approached Wen and spake thusly:

"Master, what is the difference between a humanistic, monastic system of belief in

which wisdom is sought by means of an apparently nonsensical system of questions

and answers, and a lot of mystic gibberish made up on the spur of the moment?"

Wen considered this for some time, and at last said: "A fish!"

And Clodpool went away, satisfied.

I always thought there was a difference. To me a dual suspension is a  "soft tail".

"The Soft Tail (also Softail) relies on the flexing of the rear triangle and a rear shock or elastomer placed in line with the seat stays. Soft tails are a variation of the original Amp Research Mac-Strut design (technically a 3 bar suspension design). Soft tails have no moving parts, besides the shock/elastomer, making it extremely simple. It maintains pedaling efficiency and power delivery because of the solid chainstays. They tend to be extremely light compared to other rear suspension types. Soft tails are out of favor now because of the limited rear axle travel of these designs - typically around 1 inch. Some examples include the Trek STP Moots YBB."

None' date=' there is however a difference between full suspension and a soft tail.[/quote']

You're correct Dirtbreath. I'm wrong....memory is fading with old age.

Which terminology is better - "dual" or "full" suspension?

There's only a difference between AM and XC that I know of.

XC is normally less travel than trail which is less travel than all mountain. Not too sure where DH fits in. These are all under full sus/dual sus. Potayto/Potahto.Big%20smile

Oh, and I still dont understand the logic behind a thudbuster. Never ridden one so I can say but I think a lot more goes into bike suspension then an up/down damping. I think they might have had more place in the days of early sus bikes that lost so much power so guys were looking for a bit more comfort without the bob.
