How about Jeremy Maggs somewhere in the pic, perhaps just on a postmans bike and me in a Hummer just behind him? Big%20smile

I love cycling' date=' a lot.

But to watch Supercycling is like weak coffee, smells nice, but no taste! When you saw the trailer at the beginning of the show, you've seen it all. This week the Jock was on, which is a nice and tough race, but they only showed the 6 ladies starting and about 5 leading men. None of the scenery and rest of the people. Most of the race and camaraderie doesn't happen in the front few, what really makes a race is the rest of the people. I'd rather spent a hour on the Hub, than watching Supercycling. A lot more info and people who have an opinion.

Thats the kind of editorial I like. Superb.!......................even though I didnt watch the show, I get a mental picture from your post.

I concur on the internet, although I seldom log on here at night, I do log onto a number of international sites and chat about my other passions, like Scuba, golf, running etc - although in my opinion most of DSTV is rather pityfull lately!

Haven't had time to read all the posts, but will offer my suggestions:

Bike Parks: Giba Gorge was featured a week or two back - footage of the BMX track, skills area and the area in front of the shop only - nothing shown of the actual trails.

Show the bike parks that SA has to offer and the various routes (road/mtb) around the country, i.e. Lido, Engen2Engen, etc;
Show how to negotiate the technical stuff (mtb) at these bike parts, and/or popular cyling routes;

Gear/Product/Bike reviews: all (or some) the latest gear, from entry level to top-of-the-range (surely the bike shops would be willing to promote their products - if SuperGolf can do it, then surely SuperCycling can do so too;

Bike maintenance: I thought the short series presented by JB was quite amusing and informative;

Race previews and post-race footage: I'm not talking about 94.7 and the Argus, but the other races taking place in the remaining 50-weeks of the year. The Panorama Tour springs to mind - a one hour show, with interviews and footage galore.

Perhaps spend a day with the organisers as they set-up/prepare their route, and then interview the average Joe's at the end of the race. I know sponsors want to see the Elite's, but without the mass participants, there would be that many events for them to participate in.

Q&A: If a phone-in doesn't work, then perhaps by e-mail/SMS. Our Q's can then be answered by the experts. This includes guest appearances by event organisers, CSA officials/office bearers, team managers, PRO cyclists, etc.

I'm sure I can think of more, but that will have to wait for another post.

Loads of good ideas, and as a current top level racer AM should be giving short/med/long term feedback on all the equipment he's riding. He's in the perfect position to be providing real feedback on all the bling hanging around in the LBS's.

I see Jacob Zuma has joined the Hub. Wow. Welcome, and we hope you really enjoy the Hub. Can we ask you to use your influence to open up bike routes and paths in all cities and towns to allow commutes from our homes to work and back without risk of being killed. Say yes and you will instantly get just over 5063 votes, and rising.LOL

I invite Arnie, AM and Owen into my lounge almost every week. I use the slot for my Tuesday session on my IDT. Its a weekly routine for several years now.

What SC needs is some sassiness and risk taking to make it more adventurous and fun. I have seen various attempts at this over the years, with for eg, the Aussie, then the two guys prepping for the Epic, the live interviews and the live wires LOL, the occasional product reviews, that one series where the guy spoke from the restaurants (I never got what that was about), the end inserts of Xtreme crashes, etc, etc. Nobody can accuse the producers for not trying. The point is it must be really difficult to come up week after week with something new on what is probably a limited budget.

But some of the ideas posted are great.

- What about the exploration of commuter routes in the various centres? Hog, why don't you get a video camera onto your helmet to send off to SC to show your commute? Explore various routes that cyclists can use.

- Follow each of the pros around for a few weeks, develop profiles and take us through a day or a week in the life of our pros- that will be an interesting series that could be carried over several months. These profiles, consisting of interviews, race footage, a look at family life and club life, travel and tour stories, etc, I think could be riveting stuff. Then at the end we would have a record of our pros that we could still be viewing 20 years from now. Who can show me a good profile of Ertjies Bez or Alan van Heerden?? What a pity!

- Look for our most eloquent pros and get them to guest host SC for a few weeks- like this they get exposure for themselves. The best way would be for them to comment on the races they have perticipated in. Imagine NH or ML personally taking us through their thought processes in the last minutes of their races. No doubt there are those who will need presentation skills training, and the director may have to do a few takes- as long as they come across well- we don't want to see our pros made to look foolish on TV because of poor direction. AM, Owen and Arnie should be there to help out.

- For those who don't like Arnie or Owen or AM, yes, there will always be somebody better, but who? Come on, come up with names, rather than just crit. And be realistic. Forget James Woods or Alec Baldwin. I know I couldn't do it, mainly because I'm on the IDT at the time LOL. What about some of us Hubbers- any volunteers, or do none of us have "made for TV faces?" They will put on make up hey, so don't worry about that.

Etc, etc, etc.....

I think they should get rid of Arnie and replace him with "Charl Pauw (sp) reporting from the 4173228.3 inch Pik and pay cape argus 94,7 cycle tour."Tongue

I don't think the top gear idea would really go that far..you gotta remember the personality of the presenters..Those top gear guys are just natural born comedians and entertainers..I think if AM,Arnie or Owen would try some of those stuff it be only bitter dry humor...Thats not to say they can't have fun.

my 2c worth..

I agree, with mos of the Supercycling crit..

To add some salt, our Bicycle mags, here in S.A. are just as "PLAIN" i WOULD EVEN SAY BORING..

I buy the Mountain Biking, MTB , Pro cycling Mags, as they are much more informative, and have reviews. etc..

S.A. seems to lack the spark British cycling mags, and TV has to offer

I liked the techinal stuff with JB - that was cool - please bring it back.

a product comparison would also be cool - like new dura ace vs the red goodie or what ever else can be compared.

Maybe once a week a weight review of various components.

  • 2 weeks later...

So, whom of you watched Supercycling last night. We asked them to advertise

something for us and I want to know if they did. (don't have DSTV)

Supercycling said they would like to help raise awarness of cycling and races in SA, so we put them to the testBig%20smile.

We asked them to do a quick shout out of the Crit at the Dome on

Tuesadays. They said they would do shout outs if it was warranted and

if they could.  A quick advert is easy to put together and this is to

show good faith that they would like to show us more of what we want.

To change the content now is not easy, but it will with time. IT ALL STARTS SOMEWHERE.
