Thanks BB now all became clear ! By the looks of this all I should just go with slicks .

If the Slick tyre is wide and the rubber soft enough it will grip on the trail.

Ever tried the old Michelin JetS Semi Slick tyre? It rolled like a demon' date=' cornered well enough and was light. I steered clear of the Wildslipper version though..

Most fast tyres are really semi slick with the tread meerelky serving as pre scuffing.

An old school mate of mine, Pierre doe rallying. He's the passenger but I was having a look at their car last year. On most  of the gravel stages the tyre they used had barely any tread on it. but it was soft as [insert yur favourite eupahmism'].

I think I will install the tyres upside down .

Inside-Out is better.... You wear through the canvas till the rubber shows, then chuck em...

I'm not taking the bait. Lower tire pressure works for me' date=' you do what ever works for you.

Kona Fan, I agree with you on needing more grip at the front. As you get more and more confident you do more and more braking with the front. Grip at the front is vital, for the back it should follow the front with as little resistance as possible.

I think you misunderstand me. Lower tire pressure does work i.e. does increase traction. It works for me too.

And yes, as I explained, you do need more traction up front for all the reasons I said.  However, traction and rolling resistance are not linked. The two dont affect each other. So yes, you'd like as little rolling resistance in front....but also at the back and you'd like as much traction in front and at the back.

This debate is now doing a snake swallowing its own tail. Lets focus on the original question: are tyres directional.

to be honest' date=' i'm struggling to get a grip on this threadConfused[/quote']

You mean tread? Wink

I dunno, I reckon throw a section of Specialized Pro tyres on, fill those bad boys with some Oko (NOT OMO) and then go ride your bike as fast as possible while trusting the no technology that some gimp in Taiwan applied to the manufacturing process. Make sure and to burn it around the corners! Smile

Actually, why not lob a set of Cheng Shins on, probably just the same anyway.

If a tyre is direction then why is it possible to mount it opposite directions?

Think of a tyre as a round thing which can be rotated through 180 degrees...

Nah, that's boring. Think of it as a hottie....Shocked
