One would think that the "Elite" guys should know the rules of the roadAngry.  I was at the top of Helshoogte when the pace-car and the leading group came passed on the left side of the roadClap

The next 2 or 3 bunches were all riding on the wrong side of the road and some had some near misses with oncoming trafficAngryAngryAngry.

The rest were all riding on the left, they way they should.

Helshoogte WAS NOT closed for traffic, therefore you stay on the left.  I think these idiots that think the road belongs to them should all have been disqualified -  please see pictures

Mutter Mutter in the gutter........or was that you in the gutter??

Posted

I got droped on the beginning of Bottlery because I was not going to sit on the right side of the road in the gutter... and then had to ride 105km in a small bunch of 4 riders Dead

What's up with the organisers here? Surely if the road is open, and the race is run under PPA/CSA/UCI rules, these riders should have been DQ'd? What gives?

You should have seen the elet bunch going out on botlary. We were properly in the right hand gutter and across the whole road.

Mind you we were being escorted by  a Comm and a trafic cop. still it was way scary coming over blind rises and seeing cars breaking and having to pull off the road to let us through.

I think this did the sport's image a lot of bad, bad, bad.

This was not a UCI/Licenced event persay...... as Elites/Vets and sundry rode together, therefore classed as a fun ride. Commm cannot really apply rules, only 'observe safety regulations'. Road rules apply no matter, and what if any of these guys got hit by an on comming car??????

Who would be held responsible?

One cannot control the entire race, or each and every person.

These photos speak for themselves.

Racing needs to be more organised, as in Jhb. Licenced categories no matter what the event, then the fun ride.

There is no other way to control it.

Well done MW for bringing it to the forum and hopefully that of the organisers.

Elite bunch sat right hand gutter on the road to Wellington for about 10km, nobody was willing to move left at the back and the front guys were trying to get away, as a consequence the entire bunch sat right hand gutter.

Obviously the riders will just use the gutter and the slipstream, but surely the organiser's have a responsibility? I've seen plenty of bunches up here get DQ'd for this in the recent past...

yes - the R44 to wellington. it was a joke. the oncoming traffic was carrying on as usual as the race took place in the righthand yellow line! haven't seen that in a while. Then there was the road after that with the roadworks!!! stones, signs, sand..
