Undecided whether to do it or not' date=' will decide closer to cut off date, its unlikely to be sold out.

Yah, me too.

I usually enter all my races the last day of the second extended cutoff, never been refused yet!!.

Actually I entered the Argus this year, two days AFTER official entries closed, they still accepted my entry and the on-line web was still working, it just had a big red print "ENTRIES CLOSED" on page 1, but if you clicked through, it still took your money.!!

I dont think its the cost that offends most people, its the "perception" that its "overpriced" that irks me.

If you are a single entry, its not that serious, but enter two adults, in the main event, a youngster in the kids event and maybe a M/bike entry and you are looking at a grand, - now for 1k, as a family, I am looking for more than a powerade, a tin medal and a few RaRa girls on route I am afraid.

To touch again on Mampara's point. What exactly is the CSA rider levy all about? And do you have to pay it if you have a license? And, if so, why? I thought we all bought these cyclosport licenses to avoid paying these kinda things - no?

There's also the "fun" in fighting your way through Sandton traffic to get to registration and the expo, but as per usual once entries are closed the Hub will be full of requests for entries from cyclists that have just woken up to the fact.

Gee man, I forgot how exciting that is, and braving the 5pm traffic crush is going to be even better this year with all the road works around, just think of it, at least two hours in traffic and you still get to pay R20.00 underground parking fees cos it takes so long to push your way around the expo...........................the fun never stops.!

I am waiting for feedback from the race office, as to why as per the website entries are R 265, but I paid R 275 yesterday?

Also checked out what I paid in my previous two encounters.

07 - R 375 - because I had to buy a chip which I didnt have at that stage as I had just started riding

08 - R 245

09 - R 275 (265?!)

Argus seems better value for money at R 240, but the trip to get there is where the catch lies.

I dont think for an event of this magnitude the cost is too high. Although other events might have cheaper entries, the cost of travelling there, accom etc is always taken into consideration. As for the current economic climate, I think the bulk of the entries are people that just do this event and nothing else during the year, so its not too major for them, but I do agree that numbers will be down.

What is the general take on the new finish?

I think it can lead to a few accidents due to the twists and turns, riders will not be holding lines etc..

I suspect the R10-00 is for the online entry fee, seeing that we are months away from the event can CSA and the race office decide who actually supposed to get the day license fee between CSA and CGC who are the hosts of the event and does this mean CGC will not be getting a per rider fee, looking at the entry fee breakdown

Don't know about twists and turns but believe me I rode there for the launch, those cobble stones will take a few tired leggs out( and even a few pinch flats)!

Also mostly a hell of a uphill from where we finished last year to this this finish, might be about ?2km extra up hill!

But much nicer!!!!

Maybe, but I already have a cyclosport licence, so no need for a day licence, which by the way is R 30.

I knowe, cause I had to pay that for my wife, who will be riding for the first time, and does not belong to a club or have a lic yet.

Will wait for their reply and let everyone know what they say!

Guys I need help here.

I have not entered any races/rides yet (still new and trying to get km on the legs). Is this worth it? Am I reading too much into the moans & groans?

What are the suggestions? (I mean  the ones that can be posted here, not where I should park my bike?)

Gasping

I will give you my take on it.

I race because I need to improve my seeding.

I want to improve my seeding to get into a better group when I race. By doing that I know I will have a harder ride, and that could/would improve my seeding even further.

I only hold a cyclosport licence, so I can only race open cat.

Some guys hold racing licences and they get the benefit of faster/stronger groups in every race.

I set out this year with two goals - Argus & 94.7 , and target times for myself in both these races. I then planned the year's races according to this and my training programme. In summary then I need to race enough of the "right" races to improve my seeding to be able to put myself in as best possible position to reach my goals.

So , to answer yr question - decide what you want to achieve and plan according to that.

Reality is, there are some brilliant races out there - value for money wise, route wise, etc, and then there are some really crappy ones.

Talk to guys before you decide what to ride, and you will get a good idea of what to expect. Just remember that two individuals can have two totally different experiences from the same race.
