I was at the SA National Pistol Shooting Champs this weekend and we got one of the competitors to shoot a Rudy Project ImpactX lens from 10 metres with a 9mm Pistol, the result was staggering.... Instead of shattering like most lenses would, the bullet deflected off the lens (see pic). Now THAT is eye protection!!

Cool - does anybody have these in prescription. I've got R4K to spend on prescription glasses next month and looking for a descent pair that can take a few knocks. The money is coming out of my own pocket so I'm not limited to a brand or optometrist.

i have them in prescription, but the inserts. to have the actual lenses in prescription is about R7000 i was told at the argus expo. that is just the lenses then you still need the frame.

I have the glasses with prescription inserts, they are awwesome, just feel abit heavy becuase of the metal inserts.

Addidas have plastic inserts that make them a bit lighter.

Ouch, thats more than my bike. But I will find out about inserts then. My eyes are my job and am prepared to spend any amount to protect them (lazer op is not an option for me, yet!).

Same thng will happen with just about any quality pair of polycarb lenses. Oakley used to have an ad along the same lines years ago. When I was still in optics we'd take a bunch of reject lenses and shoot the crap out of them. Big%20smile

I am waiting for prescription set. Lenses alone is R4151 for Rydons.

I can recommend these! I have a pair of rudy's with impact x photochromic lenses and they are absolutely fantastic! They don't fog, move or do anything funny.

I will never buy anything else, ever.

In 15 years of cycling........

over 125 000km done.

over 200 races

I have used BBB, Oakley, Rudy Project, Mining safety gogles, Briko.

NOT ONE OF THEM EVER SHATTERED.

I think it if very impressive for it not to shatter with a 9mm.....but also one of those pointless marketing gimmicks.

But boy.....loose ONE nose piece on one of those Rudy's and get ready to fork out R120!

Ripp off.

My 2c.

I have been looking for a RX option for my eyes as well and have been looking at the various Rudy Project RX options... They have a pretty good site www.rudyproject.co.za with loads of info on their various RX options... I'm also more in the insert price range than the Rolls Royce price range Cry

I'm going to have a little whine here. There 2 claims about sunnies that get made far too often, this is one of them. The other one is "mine's more UV resistant than yours."

Thing is, polycarbonate (the stuff ALL plastic sunglass lenses are made from, even the R5 fleamarket jobbies) has 2 notable properties.

Firstly, it's close to 100% UV resistant. Proprietary coatings, treatments etc etc will do nothing besides change the tint, and in some cases give better scratch protection and reflective properties.

Secondly (drumroll please...) it's remarkably tough. Bulletproof, in fact. Anyone remember the Topsport Darcs ad where they shot a pair with a shotgun? Nothing new here, folks...

Ok, I'm done. (BTW, I'm not saying RP don't make great riding glasses. They do. But bulletproof lenses are not unique.)droo2009-06-29 05:32:41
