Watch out boys / girls

Williams Bike shop in Somerset West is really in contention with the prices on CRC ... you can even pick up Rock Shox forks for less by him and the SRAM goodies are also well on Par.

H

putting that claim to the test on a rockshox vivid 5.1. Let's see what you're worth :P

As mentioned in other posts' date=' Williams (my LBS of choice) is way cheaper with most goods. He is also dead hounest and fair with his pricing and is aware of CRC deals !!!Not a big one, but an 8sp shimano XTR chain by him his R180 vs R240 from CRC. Not to mention my wife got my Park Tool floor pump cheaper by him and in 3 days.I will continue to support them because if he is not the cheapest his prices are still good and his service is excellent!!!![/quote']

Lets add to this.

I called William Friday morning asking if he had Motorex cahin lube in stock. HE says he is still waiting for the supplier. I say that is a pity as I am coming past Sommerset West later in the day ... William say's: no problem ... I will drive out to the warehouse to get some for you ..... $%^&$%& great thanks William ...

I now have my chain lube!!!!!!

Icycling, I do feel for you, the economic downturn is hitting everyone. But bear this in mind, when I dont spend money in your shop and prefer to spend on CRC to save ME some cash, that cash is then available to ME to put into those things that you mentioned, like eating out, servicing the car etc... so the money is still going into the economy, its just that I receive the benefit and not you. There is one way for an industry to survive a recession, work harder & work leaner.

Were is everybody getting their stock from all of a sudden that they can sell it at such good prices? Are they pressuring the distributors or are they bringing it in themselves?
Or perhaps they are finally offering realistic prices??

Not to bash William or any other LBS for that matter, BUT i have ordered a Lopes link from him Oct last year and still haven't received it.

Put my name on the waiting list for some tyres which were gonna go on order as soon as I confirmed my purchase. 6 months and still nothing. I havew since ordered tires from CRC for cheaper and it arrived in 7days.

Took my bike to him three times and all three times there where post-service issues and I had to phone them to find out that my bike wasn't gonna be finished or later than what was said.

Bought a bike from him last June...still waiting for my invoice.

Service like that makes me support another LBS and buy from CRC.

Not a rant...just some facts.

Sharing your experiences are important and consider it not bashing.

Sometimes a person does not come right with a supplier / retailer and you should just move on. While I had shocking service, actually none from Mavericks around the corner from Williams, I can only praise the awesome service I get from Williams.

There are enough LBSs that one can give them a chance and then settle with the one that meets your personal needs.

So tonight I had a rather interesting talk to someone in the cycle parts chain - OK, he only works for a company supplying ods 'n ends but he knows what happening in the industry.

Seems that customs has been alerted lately of all the CRC parcels coming in a they are being targeted for any duties owing. He was not saying that CRC parcels are been charged extra, its just that they are making sure that all the correct duties are being charged.

CRC has no real influence on this individuals market and was he not out to bad mouth them. He just gave some advice to rather shop around on certain items - we where discussing my Camelbak (they are suppose to have a 30% duty but came in at the standard 10% duty)

But on LBS prices he also told me to shop around after I commented on what I thought was a cheap price for SLX RD from a local LBS. He did not want to say where I could get it cheaper as he does not want to be seen showing any favortism to certain stores.

yeah that's right, the inevitable pressure from the channel. They sure know how to put the BS into LBS. Whether it's the distributor or the LBS itself it doesn't matter.?

Jeepers, cbrunsdon, that just got my goat. I like that a lot of the 'specials' being touted by the more reactive LBS' seem worthwhile, they particularly cater to the DH'er. I know it's a small market, so all the more reason to shop online, ie CRC. Now we get bent over double and reamed twice.

Rant aside: spoke with LBS to get me something. Did the sob story of wanting to do business with them instead of CRC and see what he can cajole out of the distributor for a better deal. Some OCT DH cranks from Truvativ at a nice price would be awesome.

Icycling: how about some killer prices on chain guides and other DH/FR specific items? Or can you only do groupies?

I'm quite happy to pay any duties or vat that is owed to SARS. These people that are saying that SARS are targeting CRC are trying to scare us for nothing. So what if CRC are being targeted, we have nothing to hide.

If you know that Camelbacks have 30% duty then you should definitely

factor that in  to your costs and decide if its worth your while.

If it turns out that I have to get an import license to buy from CRC I will do so. I am going to pay a visit to SARS next week and find out what it takes to get one.

Agree Capricorn

But anyway, found out why my LBS is cheaper on certain items (and average LBS price on others), he is registered as a bike builder and has access to different supply channels for certain components.

As a result my new shock is cheaper from him (and its waiting for dosh-day behind his counter). But then again my new budget wired tyres are > R20 more than CRC !!!

Agree. From what I understand is happening is that the correct duties where seldom charged, now distributors are bringing this to SARS attention. Hey, I too have no problems paying the legal duties, and I expect to.

But now that a certain online store has been targeted it now raises the question: Are these orders now going to be treated with such suspicion that they make it near to impossible to order without using clearing agents - cha-ching!!!

I hope not.

As much as what I say "Save your LBS" we need CRC and there are a few items I will consider through them. But I do like the initiative that Icyling has taken.
