Only car guards and Crocodile Dundee greet everyone within sight. The rest of us should just greet if there is a close encounter. People on the other side of the street needn't be greeted unless you're touring in Pofadder and you haven't seen another cyclists in days.

Having admitted that I'm a bit aloof, I won't snub anyone who greets me....except of course if they're a car guard.

HALLO THERE!!!

I greet the dogs first - some of them look much more vicious than the ownersTongue

Seriously, in Pretoria, 90% of us greet one-another - even on the other side of the double-carriageway.  When we thin-wheel on the tar, or thick-wheel in the bush.

I've also got the habit to greet the pedestrians - never know when they will help when I'm stuck in the middle in the bush.

OK, and GOODnight to all of youGeek

Just wave, say "howzit" and go on.

The ballies walking in the morning are always happy that someone greeted them. Bos, you are right. It does make them smile, and for that reason I will continue to do it.

Costs me nothing and makes them happy. If a fellow cyclist does not greet me back, I don't give a fig.

What is fun is greeting a black commuter who is really struggling on that mountain bike he owns. I always get jokey with them and tell them to hurry up, catch up, gijima baba, etc. I always get a good reaction and a smile from them.

Just be friendly - it will cost you absolutely bugger all.

It really gets to me the fact that so many cyclists couldn't be bothered with greeting another cyclist. Maybe it's because I come from an age when there were only a "handful" of cyclists so we knew everyone we passed on the road so we greeted them

I especially get peeed off when you greet and the other person ignores you. I then wish they get a flat and have to push home. Smile

In cycling, like any sport, there are guys taking part that in their day were some of the best. There is so much youngsters could learn from these guys. You never know, greet the person and in the long run yu might even learn something from them. Even if it is just how to be friendly.

Hi' date=' I'm Dirt*girl and I am a greeter! Fatties and skinnies (which I dont see often cos I only ride dirt).....he he![/quote']

Absolutely! I was going to say that if it has two wheels and pedals, just wave regardless. Then I realised that the Uni-cyclists would take offence. Mind you, they are a friendly bunch aren't they? Or is it the way they keep their balance by waving their arms around like that?

Hi there,

I'm new to this sport and I'm having the time of my life.  :-)  I love greeting others and smiling, as well as giving encouragement to my fellow 'fatties'.  Saying thank you and morning to the marshalls seems to make their day and mine.

I'm a 'fattie' on 'dikwiels' so you skinnies had better watch out - I'm getting there.  :-))   I'll be the one breezing past your skinny a$$ one day and greeting you.
