LBS morality question

I would get a new saddle, and when the replacement arrives keep it as a spare. if it has happened often as you say, it will probably happen again, so you are better off with a different brand. SDG or Selle Italia, besides shopping is fun (dont tell the missus)

I do understand your frustration, but work around it .

All the best.

And to answer your first post the shop should lend a hand in this case , its only a saddle not a whole bike.

Dude ' date=' surely thay can lend you a saddle or give you a upgrade and you pay in the diff or just take one off a bike for you.To hold up a bike and your riding for a saddle.......mmmmmmmmmmm, but as you have said you have spoken to them , why not sugest this .

most LBS will do this kind of thing

?
[/quote']I have suggested my heart out, but nothing Confused

maybe they are not very clear on reading between the lines.

Just ask them! You want to ride the bike and promote their shop, so if they cant help you, you will have to place your future business elsewhere.

Darn man, i feel sorry for you, swing by my place, ill have a spare saddle lying around somewhere!

they surely dont need to keep your whole bike just to replace a saddle' date=' any shop should have a spare saddle lying around![/quote']

as would quite a few friends / hubbers.

Or make one out of papier mache.  It'll be fine short-term as long as you dont sweat/fart too much or go out in the rain.

I agree dissing a bike shop over a saddle sounds harsh but I think the service the guy is getting is what he has his back up with. I agree that to get a loan bike for a saddle problem is a long shot but why not a loan saddle? Im sure they could of made a plan for a saddle some how. Thats not service, thats just wiping your hands a of easy solved problem. And this after the guy dropped R24k in your shop. I hope they call you by name.

Confused

Not once did I ask for a loan bike *ponders the thought

All I wanted was a loan saddle, anything, even something that resembled a saddle!

Grommit, from your posts - it seems the LBS is in the middle. So to answer the question you posted about having a right to be peeved.... yes you do. But at the LBS and not the supplier. You should suggest to your LBS that patience is running thin, and they are likely to loose your support - especially if they put you in a position of having to buy a new saddle.

And dont name them.

As much as you may be having a "bad" experience - there may be 1000 others who have had a good one. Its good you are sticking to your principles.

I know the LBS I use would have loaned me a saddle and maybe that is because I drop at at least R2k per month at his shop..... good luck

Well from my experience in retail (16yrs) my input will be that the LBS has some responsibility in this part. Yes, they are the middleman but they did accept your cash to deliver a service.

Its up to them and not you to follow up with the supplier and resolve the issue.

Offering you a loan saddle should be a natural courtesy on their side - not saying they should offer in the same class, even an entry level SDG is at least a sign of good faith.

I don't want to name the store because they are actually great people and have in the past given be brilliant service.

I don't believe in idea that 1000's of good experiences are kept to yourself but one bad one and the world must know.

I have seen many people flamed for their stance on expected service from the LBS and did not want to end up in the same category.

In retail you are the front line - to pass the buck to your supplier/source when there is a problem is not what customer service is about. The customer (who is king / queen) got the goods from you: you should make a plan when there is a problem, even if its temp solution. Problem is a lot of retailers are just plain stingy: they not prepared to layout a few extra bob to keep the customer happy. And that just creates bad vibes, and bad news travels much quicker than good news. However can come a time when a customer is acting like a spoilt child - nothing you can do will make them happy and they start to abuse your kindness and generosity:? thats when you offer a refund and ask them to kindly allow you to withdraw from the relationship. Thats after reading them the riot act (Terms and Conditions of Sale). The cornerstone of good relations is trust and goodwill: when that is gone, let it go. Life is too short.?

Thats just based on my experience (25 yrs lol) in possibly the kukest and toughest business: IT supply & services. Often there is a supplier problem, the distributors can be total facists and we JUMP to sort our customers out, always try make a plan. For every problem there is a solution. For whats thats worth.
