So true. Whats also sad is the people who complained about others breaking the law are ususally breaking the law themselves. "The cyclists are riding all over the road while I drive over the speed limit, talking on my cellphone, without seatbelt, kid not strapped in kiddy seat..."

The difference here as the motorbikers would say is that the driver is in a cage, a steel cage that will protect them to some degree. We came back from K/dorp yesterdday morning and there was a road cyclist going down the long hill into the hekpoort valley, he was really moving (more courage than me!!) but was at times in the middle of the lane, I live in the area and know the roads so you know to exercise caution when you come into the corners but if you were flying down that road at 100km and suddenly there was a cyclist in the middle of your lane and a truck coming from the opposite direction, who do you think would lose?

I live in Magalies and we have no issue with cyclists here, but I just wish for their own safety they would try to keep left! And keep in single file! Sometimes I see the guys on the R560 two and three abreast, yes the road is quiet, but equally the other road users think it is quiet and then speed down here. The roads are dodgy enough without it becoming more so with cyclists scattered all over the lane.

Why do you have to associate CL and money? I ride with CL and believe me not all members have money!! Having money or not isnt an excuse for poor manners!

Well if you ride a Cervelo and have shiny pimp shoes, believe you you have money.

true, what I'm getting, as GOG says, its rather about two groups of people not willing to give an inch. When the roads are very quiet, we ride two abreast, enjoying a bit of the freedom , but , we check whats going on behind us for upcoming traffic and go single file if required. Lots of cyclists out there also don't gives a ratts ass about anyone else!

About a month back comming down the past the Rhino and Lion park there were two CL riders taking a wizz on the side of the road just past the lion enclosures on the side of the road. They did not go into the bush or behind a tree.

Isn't that the African way? I thought it was normal to urinate in public just like it is normal to have more than one wife.

That is for the uneducated people in parliament but not the educated people that pay them their salaries.

They did not go into the bush or behind a tree. They sat square on their bike's top tubes on the side of the road and peed into the veld. Sorry but no matter how much money you have, you can not buy manners.

Fixed, CL sell kit to anybody that pays the asking price, you need to be a member.

I stopped coming on to the Hub after that whole Cradle Trout thing. Made me ashamed to be a cyclist. We have to look at our behaviour which too often is stupid, selfish and unreasonable. Any one of those pics is enough to confirm CR's viewpoint...and that of Ivo Vegter.

I'm pretty sure they were club members as they dropped out the back of the group to do their business. They turn around at the circle 100m ahead which by the way have alot of trees around it.

which is exactly why I do 90% of my training alone. As soon as theres a group, cyclists lose all road sense.

I find when I train by myself, i don't have to worry about 20 other guys riding all over the show, making our name gat

as someone said the other day, we keep hearing about cyclists being knocked down. How many of those cyclists which were knocked down were in the middle of the road or jumped a stop street etc

we really are our own worst enemy

Oh boy! Now you're gonna get it!

I once made a similar suggestion. If I'd suggested that Mother Theresa was a crack-dealing hooker who killed kittens I think the reaction would have been gentler.

I hope you have a large hat with a broad brim, 'cause there will prolly be a sh!t-storm.

What is concerning for me is the fact that we can't seem to see that the onus is on us as cyclists to get our own house in order first. If we are wrong and it is pointed out to us it is up to us to fix that first before we point fingers at the the complainant.

What would be fantatstic is if we can set the example by correcting the behaviour of those cyclists who transgress and having done this I believe that we will get closer to having the right dialogue with the residents of the Cradle.

Any takers?

I beleive bike monster refers to some comments I have actually made several times on the HUB, and I stand by my comments, If your an idiot, and drive like an moron, and manage to get yourself killed, You deserve your Darwin award.

If you are a law obiding citiizen, cycle with awareness and good manners, and you manage to get hurt and killed you have all my sympathy.

I THINK THESE CLUBS BE TO RETHINK THEIR ROUTES AND THEIR GROUPS..... THE BIGGER THE GROUP THE MORE SPACE THEY TAKE UP ON THE ROAD..... BUT REALLY THERE IS NO NEED TO BE GOING OVER ONTO THE ON COMING LANE....... I SAY .... THROW AWAY YOUR ROAD BIKE GET A MOUNTAIN BIKE AND GET OFF THE ROADS.... OR DO YOUR 94.7 TRAINING ON YOUR ROLLERS
